hate to ask this, TMI
I really don't like the idea of an enema. I think I'm gonna try a suppository first and go for the enema if that doesn't work. I'm never constipated and I have no idea why I am right now. Seriously, I think this is only the second time I've been constipated since surgery. The other time, I was out of town visiting my sister so I wasn't eating quite the way I normally do and I figured maybe that threw things off or something. But I was able to get through it without having to take anything for it.

Ah, I'd forgotten all about Dulcolax. A long, long time ago (close to 20 years, I bet) I was on some medication that caused horrible constipation and I used Dulcolax several times and it worked every time.

I found that the only thing that works when you're at this point is an enema! I've tried stool softeners but someone told me that they ardent as effective when you're at the stage you're at. It sucks, I was there this week as well and had to get a fleet saline enema and that helped break up the stool so I could pass it. Hope you get some relief.

2 words--Fleet Enema.
Why suffer when you don't have to? Takes just a couple of minutes and you are done. I'd much rather do a quick enema than some of the other things you are considering--plastic baggies manual extraction? Go for the enema!

Constipation is a common problem, and I also had some issues until I began adding a dose of Miralax to my daily routine. Now I am as regular as clockwork with no discomfort.
Actually, I've reached a point where I no longer use it daily, but every other day or so and am still regular.
For immediate relief, have you thought about either an enema or possibly a prep kit that you can get at the drug store?
Good luck! I remember how miserable I was before getting on the Miralax regime, so I do feel for you.
This still remains the number one issue I struggle with as a result of surgery. For me I cannot afford to go more than a few days. I will use an enema and/or laxatives if need be. Even though I take stool softeners, they do not help at times. It is frustrating. I eat a lot of vegetables and fruit. I always had this issue prior to surgery and now it is worse.
Hey Kelly,
It's now morning ..... Any relief?
The few times I've gotten severe constipation (where it's at the opening but wont fit through the hole), I use my fingers (put toilet paper over it just in case) and press on the back, outside of the opening of the hole to help shape the turd to come out. It's helped every time I've had to do it.
But generally if I drink a cuppa coffee a day, and take my Colace, the constipation isn't too bad. THANK GOD!

I've had this problem several times since surgery and a suposetory work wonderfully and almost immediately! I had some from when my kids were infants and I used 1, waited about 15min. and then I went. It was still uncomfortable, but it did come out. I'd do that before I tried to "grab it" and pull it out. Good luck!
