Random Poll o' the Week: A Radical New Experiment...

We’re shrinking. Well…you guys are. I’m not. But I’m ok with that.

Anyhoo…YOU are shrinking. But the scale doesn’t always reflect that. That sucks. So what can you do? How can you stay motivated? What will assure you that everything is going in the right direction?

I’m proposing a little experiment. I am proposing to do this for two months and see how it goes. I’ll be responsible for keeping it up, all you have to do is participate.

Let’s begin at the beginning. I have found in my experience that when the scale is cruel to you and your perceptions of how much you do or do not eat are sort of warped, hard and objective data is the way to go. So I have a questionnaire poll for you. This poll will be the same every week. Each week I’ll post a link to last week’s thread so you can compare YOU to YOU.

Answer as many of the questions as you want. This is not a school assignment but hopefully a way to see you are making progress even when it doesn’t seem like it.

So here we go:

  1. How much did you weigh at your last weigh-in?
  2. What is the size of the clothing you are wearing RIGHT THIS SECOND?
  3. What are your measurements in:
    1. Your hips
    2. Your waist
    3. Your bust
  4. If you have a scale that measures body fat, what is your percentage of body fat?
  5. What is your shoe size?

These are all things that should be changing as your body changes. They are also things that wouldn’t necessarily be reflected in the number on the scale. I ask for your weight so that, hopefully, you’ll see that even if the number is the same or not much lower, big things are happening.

So who’s in? This will be my Friday poll every week for the next two months. At the end of it all, we can see what progress has been made. Be brave and do this for yourself!

I'll get the party going although my answers likely won't change.

1. 197 lbs.
2. Bottoms: I am actually wearing my daughters pants, which are a size 13 juniors and top that SAYS it is a small but it's more like a medium/large.
3. I'm at work so I'll add that later
4. The last time I measured I was at 30% (I was about 48% pre-op)
5. 9 1/2 (10 pre-op)

I do expect my body fat percentage to keep coming down as I go hard at weight lifting again but the rest of it is fairly static. Perhaps that might cause me to go down a pant size. Who knows?

I'm pretty happy with my results right now. And I am starting to SEE my body for what it really is which is a blessing.

I sound like a hypocrite here but the scale does not gauge success. Ok, yes, there is a difference in 300 lbs and 200 lbs on the scale but when you seem to be in a "stall", note the changes Nik is talking about here. B/c the less dependent on teh scale you are, the more healthy you will be come maintenance time.

Be happy.
