180 pounds.. What a difference a year makes..
My one year surgiversary is quickly approaching and today I pulled out old pictures to look at just how far I've actually come. It's incredible really. Just one year ago, I was 371 lbs and a very tight size 28-30/3X and this was after the pre-surgery diet! Shopping for clothes was depressing and going to the gym wasn't even really an option as I could barely catch my breath after walking up the stairs much less make it through a cardio class. It's surreal to sit here today 180 lbs lighter and a loose size 14/L. I love clothes shopping now and spend loads of time at the gym. It's ironic that some of the classes that were so challenging I've actually stopped going to since I don't even break a sweat and wonder what I'm possibly getting out of them.
Part of the purpose of this is for those people who are where I was a year ago reading this board and wondering if I'd ever have the success that so many people post about. I kept finding people who were 250 to begin with and thinking that I wished I could just get to 250 post-surgery. Not only can you get to your goal, but you will. The process is not without a lot of hard work and I still have 30 lbs to go until my goal - but 30 lbs?!?! There was a time in my life I would have killed to be just 30 lbs overweight instead of 210 lbs overweight. It's incredible the feeling of being comfortable in my own skin and being happy with who I am. If I never lose the last 30 lbs, I'm thrilled with the decision I made, the control I have over my eating and the success that I found. All the best to everyone on this journey.. it's worth it.

I'm lucky.. I can eat anything at this point. I choose not to eat anything the vast majority of the time but know that I can. If I'm out with friends and choose to have a slice of pizza, I leave it at that - a single slice. And then I know the next day, my cardio needs to reflect that decision to have a slice of pizza. Same thing with a glass of wine etc.
I limit anything I know is a bad idea to have or I avoid it all together. My eating consists mostly of lean protein, raw fruits and vegetables and sporadic whole grains. Typically, I eat plain greek yogurt with a banana for breakfast, eat a piece of low-fat string cheese for a snack, usually a salad with chicken for lunch, a hardboiled egg for a second snack and then something grilled (meat, mushrooms, peppers etc) with a broccoli salad etc for dinner. When we go out, I eat similarly most of the time and occassionally splurge on pizza or chicken tenders or an eggroll - yum! I can eat bread but try not to as its so tempting for me to eat the entire loaf! Ditto with potato chips.. I have to avoid them like the plague or I'm afraid I would be sitting in a corner shoveling them. LOL
