Sodium question for vets
If you have normal kidneys and blood pressure, then the sodium isn't too important to you.
It helps you hold water in and is used in cell membrane function.
The jury is out if we all need to restrict sodium, but it looks like the answer is "No". In most people it can be sort of be ignored. (to a degree, way too much can mess with you)
The number on the blood work is actually a measure of your fluid status. A high number means you're dehydrated, and a low number means that you're over hydrated.
And that's only that moment. By the time you get the results, your sodium has changed dozens of times.
If you have high blood pressure or get swelling in the ankles then restricting it some may help.
(maybe 2-3000mg/day)
as usual, listen to your doc.
NOT ME.
