I am doing so much better!

I feel like a different person. I had such a hard journey so far with ending up back in the hospital sooooooo any times and having my stricture dilated a lot. Then I was nausia ALL the time and had no energy at all. I lost my job because I was sick all the time and I was isolated in my house. I was having maybe 400 calories a day (on a good day), drinking maybe 30 oz of water, no protein shakes, and just could not get down my vitamins. I also couldn't handle mosts foods. Most foods made me sick. I didn't touch meat at all.

Now I am on two protein shakes a day, all my vitamins, all my water, and I can eat a variety of things. I am cooking a lot more and can actually eat meat. I have more energy and I'm not sick all the time. I am also getting in 800 calories a day.

When I first got this surgery I wanted a reversal more than anything. I wanted to wake up from the horrible nightmare. I could not believe what I did to myself. I missed the comfort of food and I missed feeling like a human being. I could not have gotten this far without this forum. I know without it I would have gotten a reversal. Everyone has answered all my questions and have offered me encouragement and support. It made me feel so much less alone.

Now I can safely say that this was the best decision I've made in my life. I can't wait until I hit 100 lbs!

I'm glad you're feeling so much better! I know that must have felt very uncomfortable and upsetting to have lost your job, but it may end up being a blessing in disguise. I think the first month (or even longer) can be very hard, as it is such a major life adjustment! But great job making it through! It will just keep getting better from here, so congrats!!

Hello,

I'm new to this site and not very sure of where to navigate, however I came across your post and have been reading others also. I am just at the pre Dr. appt. stage of the surgery. I have decided on the RNY. I'm 58 yrs. and at 252 lbs. My question is this.....After reading your posts and others, I have to say, I'm second questioning if I want to go thru with it all. I am more scared now than before. The possibility of a long recovery with not being able to even drink water because I would be so sick, the problem with protein and vitamins, hair falling out. My labs came back very good with just a little elevation of Glucose and Tryglicerits (sp). Should I go thru with this?

Congrats on feeling better!  I'm so glad you are on your way to feeling better.  I can only imagine what it must feel like to have all those complications and think what the heck have I done to myself??  Glad you are on your way!!

As for the poster above who asked if it's worth it, I can only say everyone is different.  Most of us have our surgeries and are just fine, no major issues, no complications etc.. Then there are others that do have problems.  You just won't know what group you will fall into until you have your procedure.  It's a very tough decision, you need to be mentally prepared that's for sure!  If you are in doubt take the time you need.

I'm very happy for you!!! I'm almost 4 weeks out and still in pain and missing my old life. God I miss it so bad. I am still very much in the regret stage. Thank you so much for posting your new found happiness. I know you have had an awful time and its such an inspiration to know you've seen the light at the end of the tunnel! Congrats!

I am SO glad you are finally feeling better and are able to eat more!  You will probably continue to feel even better as you extend the amount of time you have been able to get adequate nutrition.

I was really worried that you would never find a protein supplement you liked. Most people give up and you didn't. Yay, for you. I am so glad you are feeling better.
