When I go to chinese I just ask for chicken and vegetables with the sauce on the side.  I make sure there is no MSG, soy, sugar or wheat in the sauce but those are my preferences.
My daughter loves Chang's Mongolian Grill.  At first I would just have the egg drop soup and some of the meat from my daughter's meal but now I get my own.  It is good because I can add whatever I want, a lot of meat and vegetables and I make my own sauce.  I used to feel like I wasn't getting my "money's" worth but now I figure I paid full price I would get a plate of what I wanted and leave what I can't eat.  Still feel a bit guilty about that.  I hate to waste food.

I had chicken and eggplant today. I ate about 3/4 a cup of it and 1, yes 1 crispy noodle and 1, yes 1 fork full of pork fried rice -yum!
No problems...then again, haven't had any. I think if you are able to eat most things you should give it a shot :)

Try making your own.  That way you can control the texture of the vegetables and the amount of meat or fish you use.  I eat it a lot...made at home.  If you are interested, send me a message, and I will tell you what I use and how I prepare it.

I still eat Chinese but not often. It is like once I start, I can't stop. I had egg foo yung the other day. Watch out for all that salt, because about 2 hours after eating it I was 3.5 pounds heavier! I have been "puffy" for a few days, partly because I am not really drinking enough water but I will get there.

But here are my favorites:

Shrimp Egg foo yung
BBQ spare ribs
Egg drop soup (only PF Changs)
Beef and broccoli
Garlic Chicken

Hell I just love Chinese food!!!
Just a few more steps to wonderland......and believe me I am taking baby steps (ugh).

I have no problem with Chinese/Japanese food...But you have to KNOW what to order.

First...Skip ANY rice or "fried" foods.

Things that are good...
1) Egg Foo Young (Shrimp, Chicken or Veggie) SKIP the gravy and rice
2) Egg Drop Soup (Double Yum!)
3) Moo Shoo (Pork, chicken or beef if you can tolerate it) SKIP the pancakes and sauce it comes with.
4) SUSHI/Sashimi  This is the ultimate protein rush and so yummy on the pouch! Raw salmon and tuna. Stay away from the "rice" and/or California rolls until you are at LEAST 6 months+. I eat some kind of sashimi (just the raw fish) nearly every day. Usually raw salmon with some Unagi.
5) "Steamed" dishes. Nearly ALL chinese places have some kind of "dieters" or "steamed" special which is just veggies, a bit of meat and either a very LIGHT or no sauce. Skip any rice.

I have been eating Chinese/Asian food since about 3+ months out and have never had any trouble with it. (Of course that is me....You're mileage may vary!) Things to stay FAR, FAR away from....

1) FRIED rice (or most rice)
2) Egg Rolls
3) General Tso's chicken, Pad Thai, anything with NOODLES, anything that is breaded or fried or covered in tons of sauce.... (That is just "Americanized Chinese food anyway... REAL authentic oriental food has very little meat and very little if NO sauce and is usually NOT fried).

WLS is not a "I can never eat this again..." It's all about eating like a NORMAL human being and eating HEALTHY.  As I tell my husband, I can go to nearly ANY restaurant and find something to eat...Even if it is just a hamburger and I take off the BUNS and eat ONLY the meat.

WLS is only 10% physical...The rest is DISCIPLINE and changing to healthy habits. You CAN have food you like, just have the healthier, low fat, low carb, non-fried versions!  In fact we are ordering chinese food tomorrow and I am having some Moo Shu pork (which will last me for like a week!) and some egg drop soup. Yumm-a-licious!

Warmly,
Jackie

Forgive me but...what is the POINT of egg foo young if you don't eat the gravy?

I'm just musing there. I eat the gravy. I just don't eat it that often. I also make my own at home with a better gravy and it's very yummy.
