Have you checked it out yet???
What? Bariatric Foodie of course!
****all me a shameless self promoter if you want, but nobody ever got anywhere through silence. Except maybe Charlie Chaplin. But I digress...)
BACKGROUND: Bariatric Foodie = a blog = my blog = WLS recipe/information/inspiration blog. Have you checked it out yet? No? Well what better time than now? I have a lot of good stuff going on!
(TIP: Bold blue words are links :)
Right now, for instance, I'm doing a series on the nutrition label. I used to be mystified by the nutrition facts label. I understood the information well enough but didn't really "get" how it applied to anything. We're going over all that and more.
This is one of my "BF Basics" series that gives good starter information on food so that you can go out and be food detectives on your own turf. I've done series on sugar and carbs so far and folks seem to find them helpful. I hope you do too!
I've also got TONS of recipes. Well not, tons. Maybe abut 300+? Yeah...about that much. I've got protein shakes, protein desserts, ideas for the puree stage, soft foods, you name it. I've also got restaurant and product reviews.
I'll stop there so as not to get the OH po-po too much up in arms. I'm not selling anything but I'm also very wary of pimping too hard.
So in closing I'll just say that at Bariatric Foodie, I encourage people to play with their food. And we manage to have some good fun while doing it. So check it out!

Thanks for posting tips. I'm collecting samples of things to try after surgery and am reading on this site as much as I can to learn as much as I can. I can't wait! I wish the surgery could be tomorrow...well,sorta...part of me dreads the surgery part. I wish I could beam myself to six weeks afterwards.

...try six months.
KIDDING! Everyone's recovery is different. But at six months out I was INVINCIBLE. I was like the damn Energizer Bunny. I had boundless energy, I was still dropping sizes like gang busters. Man...those were the days...
SIGH...anyway, KUDOS to you for preparing!

So I went over your website today after you responded to my post about the ah-maz-ing protein shake. It's a super cool website! You've done such a good job with it!! I found lots of helpful tips and recipes that look yummy. I'm all ready to go now!! I printed out the ones that looked particularly interesting to me and have added them into my binder.

By six months I expect to be a LOT smaller and feeling great. By six weeks I expect to be functioning and hope I'll have reached the point of not regretting this surgery. I still can't believe I'm voluntarily going in for stomach surgery. My plan to stay healthy has mostly consisted of avoiding doctors as long as possible. Now I'm tying my fate to the medical profession and realizing I will need labs and checkups the rest of my life. I'm not eager for surgery. I'm just tired of being so fat and having it create so many levels of complication in my life...so many things I can't do or have to figure out ways around...so many times I have to pretend things don't bother me. I want to get a good night's sleep. I want to zipline through the canopy of the rain forest when we take our next cruise (last time I went to the zoo with the grandkids while the 7 other members of my family all went on the excursions I had booked and drooled over). I'm going on a trip to Montreal in November and I'd love to be able to fit in the seat on the plane. I'm not eager for surgery; I'm eager for more life in my life.
Well if you like the kid friendly recipes you'll be happy to know that plans are in the works for the divas to start their own food blog about being the children of a post-op. They have stuff to say and food to share too!
Very often they'll eat a variation of a dish I made WLS friendly. They'll have it with pasta or brown rice or whatever. So their blog will be a bit more mainstream. But my kids still have interesting tastes. Like my oldest daughter lives and dies for something called Spicy Yemisir. It's an Ethiopian lentil dip we get at the farmer's market. She eats it on crostinis that I make for her out of whole grain baguettes (child doesn't like store bought crostinis). So...there's still some difference in what my kids like and what a typical kid would eat but I hope they'll share more kid friendly recipes on their blog starting this fall!

Don't take this the wrong way, but I think I LOVE you. I am on purees and I am bored. I can't wait to try your recipes. I've been experiementing with ways to make my protein shakes less protein shakey, but figured I'd be stuck with boring old mashed up fish and pureed chicken blandness for the next three weeks. It's such a relief to know that I can still have flavor.
