Tough love time...and many of you won't like me after reading this

Did you know you can actually set how the board appears?

Mine is set so that posts are in order by most recent response.

And still there are repetitive questions. Sometimes two or three stacked neatly on top of one another. In many cases, it's a matter of people taking the time to look at the board, using accurate subject lines and all that kind of good stuff.

My evidence? Posts that read "I KNOW this has been asked a million times but..."

In the end, if we don't want to read a repetitive post we're all grown. We can refrain from opening. That's how I manage it. I am the only one responsible for my last nerve ;)

No, I did not know the forums could be reorganized.  Took a few minutes, but I found it and changed it.  However, the fact remains that the default settings of this board encourage daily duplicate postings.  And newbies, by the very nature they are NEW, are not going to realize they have to change the default settings (which probably wouldn't matter if the majority of people are viewing this forum in the default settings).

So people post duplicate questions, "I know this has been asked before" because they want people to respond, which doesn't happen when threads are buried.

Again, I'm not disagreeing the your sentiments.  But the default organization of this site encourages the duplication of questions. Lots of people DO ignore thoses posts, which is why more are posted, with the hope someone WILL answer.

Oh you are free and encouraged to disagree with me whenever you want! I’m not sensitive about it. J

I do agree with you, though. We’ve often wondered why certain information posts can’t be “stickied" to the top of the board. I have e-mailed the OH folks a million times about it. I think they do not like me very much.

Well, I am a real newbie, surgery in August, but i have to say that I am amazed at times.  There is a wealth of information out there on this subject and I have researched until I think I cannot research anymore.  I purposely pushed my surgery to August so I could have time to research and do this right.

I get frustrated with people who say they do not like to take their vitamins because they do not like to take pills!  Freaking really?  Okay, my Metforim is a pill, but my VITAMINS are nutritional supplements that happen to be in the shape of pills.  They are not pills, they are vital to my health.

Anyhow, I always read your posts and a select few others because I find them informative and worth reading.

As a 'newbie' I am going to push out a few of my frustrations with other newbies. I am almost 8 weeks post op, but have been reading the boards for over a year.

I know it's hard, and I know that people need support and may not have any real life support, and rely on thaws boards. But seriously, don't ***** because you can't eat pizza. Or don't eat pizza at 4 weeks out and look for others on the board to give you permission to stray from the plan.

I get really frustrated with all of the 'when can I eat McDonalds, name your favorite trigger food' posts. Isn't that a part of what landed us looking at WLS in the first place? We have a lot of very creative people on these boards, I would prefer to see... Really craving cheese enchiladas, any WLS friendly ideas on how to satisfy that craving? And Nik, you share so much to help people make the transition.

I just get angry with the people who do not appear to be bought into the plan to
change. They expect the surgery to do all of the work for them. And seem to continue to push the limits of their pouch, to see just how much they can get in there.

*stands up*. My name is Betty and I have a picky pouch, and it's a small one too. It gets very cranky when I feed it too much. But, I have had a surgery, I need to pull up my big girl panties and make the most out of my life, because wishing it was different isn't going to make it any better. I own my health, no ne can do that for me.

I actually clapped when I read this. I have not had my surgery yet and OMG too true. I had another account on here and deleted it because of some BS that went on but I got over it and now know the block feature is there for a reason.
As for anoyhe dislikign you after that, they need to check themselves and question what about that post offended them. Was it the outright honesty? Or was it some need that they feel they were belittled because they A. Are one of those people who didn't do their research or ask questions or B. you got to it before they did and worded it better than they would have? Ok that last one was a bit snarky but ehhh.

THanks Nik for making this post. On my first meeting (the orientation seminar) we were all given the "Bariatric Bible" thing is thick but not so thick that you could maim someone with it (on second thought.... LOL) and it is loaded with information. We were also given a packet with ALOT of info as well. The support groups I went to were extremely helpful and I took down alot of information at those. THat is the thing- preops SHOULD be required to go to support groups, there is A LOT of information the be gained and if there are any questions the pre-ops want to ask that is a good time to do it. Also if there is ANYTHING no matter how mundane or how (i gasp saying this part) stupid it may be to the asker, ASK IT!!! Also if the question has been answered but the person needs conformation then ask it again. Clairification is a GREAT thing. Most surgeons may be a bit leery of those patients who do not ask questions. I have asked some doozies myself but not once have I ever been belittle because of it. So I say again DO NOT BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS. It may just be the one thing that is the deciding factor in whether you succeed or backpedal.

P.s> Nik I am LOVING the Bariatric Foodie stuff. I was on here once before like I said and I had asked you about the recipes. Tried the freezer pops but was informed today that I can not have them anymore until after my surgery, SIGH.
