What would you tell pre ops?

I have not read what other wrote, but here's mine:
*Talk to your doctor ahead of time about constipation. This is something I was not prepared for, and I am still figuring out what works for me.
*Just because you can not tolerate something early out does NOT mean you will not be able to tolerate it farther out.
* It will be a struggle to get in your water, protein, meds, etc at first. Do the best you can. It WILL get easier.
* Your tastes WILL change after surgery.
* You WILL stall at some point or another. It is perfectly normal and expected.
* Make a profile on this board. The information here is endless.

1. Walk. Sip. Walk. Sip. Walk. Sip.
2. your taste buds will change.
3. The weight will NOT come off overnight.
4. Celebrate even the small things.
5. Reach for support.
6. Your body chaemistry will change. carry deoderant with you and body spray.
7. drink water. Its hard at first but DO IT!
8. Avoid sugar and fatty foods.
9. YOU MUST FOLLOW YOUR SURGEON GUIDELINES FOR VITAMINS!
10. Do NOT STEP ON THE SCALE DAILY! Have a family member hide it and ONLY bring it out oonce a week for you to record your weight.

Expect most people, and even those in the medical profession, to not understand your eating plans and vitamin regimen - I went to see the eye doctor Friday and he tried to convince me I did not need all the vitamins I am taking - I just looked at him and smiled and thought to myself, "Keep on talking all you want, but I know what I am doing!" We need to do what is right for the WLS lifestyle and smile when people give us suggestions!!!

1.Water, protein, vitamins and moving for life
2.Hair loss happens between 3-7 months. Biotin, protein, Nioxin, shampoo less often
3.Plateaus happen. Water and protein
4.Get involved in supports groups, local, Obesity Help or Daily Strength
5.Recovery takes time, up to 6 weeks to begin to feel "normal"
6.There will be days when you have energy and days when you need
to rest
7.This about a new relationship with food, ourselves and life
8.Expect to work on your issues, mental and emotional. Plateus happen around emotional memory scale numbers as you regress through time
9.Tastes, smells, and textures change
10.Expect to learn to listen to your pouch
