question about seizures

First, let me say I was visiting my sister for a week and did not have internet access.  I missed OH, though.

Second, no one needs to tell me I need to see a doctor.  I'm calling my doctor first thing Tuesday morning.

But here's my question.  Saturday I had a really weird and scary experience.  I was walking from the living room to the kitchen and was passing through the dining room when I got really dizzy and my vision got all blurry.  I could barely see.  I was right by a chair so I put one hand on the back of the chair to try and steady myself.  Then my whole body started shaking really hard.  I could feel it shaking but could not make it stop.  My sister saw what was happening and ran over and put her arms around me so I wouldn't fall or at least she could break my fall if I fell.  I did not fall though, I stayed on my feet.  The whole thing lasted less than a minute and I felt perfectly fine afterward.

I used to work in the health care field and so did my sister and we've both seen plenty of seizures.  She said it looked like a seizure to her, except that neither or us has even seen someone have a seizure standing up and not fall down.  Is it possible to have a seizure and stay standing?  Does anyone know?  Or if not, does anyone have any idea what it might be?

I've felt fine since it happened and like I said, I plan to call my doc first thing Tuesday morning.

It sounds as if you were aware during the entire episode, and the fact that you stayed standing is odd too.  That is not the usual way a seizure presents....but I am only an OB nurse...so perhaps I am not up all types of seizures.

Could it have been a sudden blood pressure shift?  Or did you notice that your heart was beating in an odd way like some kind of arhythmia?

Well, sometimes I get dizzy when I first stand up, and I think that is a drop in blood pressure.  But would a change in BP cause 30 seconds or so of really hard shaking?  That's never happened before.

I didn't notice my heart  beating in an odd way, but I can't say for sure it wasn't.  I have no idea.

I have seen "seizure like" movements (the shaking and so forth) with a sudden blood pressure drop.  Often the person is still somewhat aware as well.

That is an scarry episode...especially if you have never had it happen before.  I hope you get some answers.

I wondered if it was blood sugar but I did not have my glucometer with me so I couldn't test it.  I've had what I think is reactive hypoglycemia at times in the past, but it made me dizzy and nauseous, but never caused shaking like this.  It wasn't like just trembling a little, it was really hard shaking.

Also, I'd just eating a protein bar about 20 minutes before it happened, and that's what I'd been eating every morning for breakfast for a week, and every other morning I felt just fine afterward.

I had a protein bar about 20 minutes earlier.  Same kind of protein bar I'd been eating for breakfast every day for a week.
