For the past week my bowel movements (BM) have been hard the after the "cork" is pooped it is loose. I get severe cramping during bowel movements and sometimes back pain. I take a Dulcolax and get my fluids in. What else should I do? I am about 6 1/2 weeks out!

What's worth the PRIZE is ALWAYS worth the FIGHT!

Call your surgeon's office and check with them.  Every doctor's protocol is different.  Some people on here take Mirilax or Benefiber.  My surgeon doesn't want me to take anything more than Milk of Magnesia.

Best advice...call them!

Maybe try some docusate (colace) 100mg twice a day.  It will help soften the stool.  May also want to try some miralax.  The colace is available as a small capsule or a liquid and the miralax is a powder that can be mixed in your water.  Hope this helps.

<-------Pharmacist  I can answer general questions, but for more serious questions always ask your surgeon.

I   am 8   wks  out, I had  a  real problem also with this, I  took  stool softners the cheap ones from Walmart, but if you can afford Colace they are much much  better. But I still had  problems and my Dr.  had  me do  mirolax.... it is  a powder that  goes in any liquid, not bad at all and it really   does the trick with the  softners.

Sorry but I am a little confused by your description.  Is your stool hard, loose or both?  Severe cramping during bowel movements isn't a good thing and neither is back pain.  Getting in your fluids is essential but taking dulcolax on a regular basis isn;t a great thing.  You are relying on laxitives which isnt' a good thing especially so early out.

The things that my surgeon suggests that are okay to use on a regular basis are colace and miralax. Drink minimum of 64 ounces of fluids. High fiber diet.   If you go for a few days with no BM, then try 2 doses of Milk of Magnesia and if no success,  then use dulcolax suppositories and if no success, fleet enema.  If still no success call him.

You are really early out to be having trouble.  If you are at all concerned, call your surgeon. If you are still having trouble with dulcolax on a regular basis, something could be wrong.

Our surgeon will suggest Benefiber Drink Mix for this problem. I had the same problem around 6 1/2 weeks out. Once I started mixing one of the Benefiber Cherry Pomegranate mixes into my water things improved quickly. Our surgeon also suggested to me to take one Colace every day which I still take. Very important to get the fluids in also once they started me on fiber things moved along much easier.

No problems since! If you still are having problems call the office and leave a message for her to call you back. She is great and will do just that!  Good luck and hope things work there way out with less pain.

You are doing great...keep up the good work!
