Limiting Carbs
Yes. Some fruits. There are fruits that do not upset my suagr balance, and they are some than do. I dump on some or get RH. So I do li8mit those. But other fruits I do not limit - teh only limit is the space in my pouch as long as I had the proteins for the day.
i.e. banana, grapes, ripe melons, etc - fruits with a lot of sugar and not much carbs - not good for me.
but: berries, kiwi - do not bother me too much,

Yes and no.
Fructose, or fruit sugar, is a simple carb but fruit skins contain fiber and nutrients. Different fruits rank differently also. Blueberries are great for you, for example, with the fiber in the skins, the nutrients, the anti-oxidants. Bananas can be trouble for some as they are really concentrated with the sugar, but even still have potassium.
It's a simplER carb. But not as simple as...say...a brownie :)

I tried doing carbs a few weeks ago ...started with Nature valley granola bars...BAD IDEA! Altho they were DELI**** made me feel like crap and crave more of them. So needless to say i let the kids finish the box lol. Ive not done bread rice or pasta since surgery and dont plan to. I have however done potatoes in small amnts and dont have any problem with them ie they dont make me crave MORE potatoes lol. I also only use splenda or similar products for sugar replacement. I really watch the sugar content on my foods. My dr said we can have wraps, crackers etc but im just steering clear of them...its better for me.
I took the same approach to carbs and it has worked well for me. Countless times in my support group, I have heard people say that getting into the processed carbs and sugar is like opening a pandora's box....one thing leads to another and it is very hard to contain it. Also, the refined carbs and sugars seem to be pivotal in avoiding regain.
I can eat a little potato and sometimes have a few bites of a baked potato at a restaurant. If they have a plain sweet potato, that is a better choice nutritionally, but still pretty carby so I limit that as well.

My plan calls for 1/4c servings, no more than 2x a day of carby stuff, beans, potatoes, ww pasta or bread, brown rice. That would be a place to start and see how you react. I do beans but none of the rest really. I don't have them more than once a day and not everyday. I do eat low carb green leafy type veggies 3x a day. Spinach, cabbage, brocalli, tomatoes, snow peas, green beans, summer squash. That kind of thing.

I get my carbs from veggies, fruit, whole grain, yogurts, etc. We need carbs in our diet - the healthy ones.
I stay away from white flour, white sugar, white rice, white potatoes, pasta, junk food and fast food.
I try to eat my veggies and fruit - fresh and organic when possible. No processed (canned) veggies or fruit. Most have chemicals, preservatives, added sugar or salt and have lost nutritional content from heat used during processing.
Once you "detox" yourself from the white carbs - you don't crave them like you used too. And speaking for myself - white carbs (especially sweets & bread) were my problem foods that got me to being morbidly obese in the first place.

Carbs. I love them. I eat them.
So here's the run down of how they play out in my life:
Bread: I eat a slice of whole wheat toast every morning. My NUT gave me a two serving of starch a day budget.
Cereal: Typically my other serving of starch is a 1/2 c. of Fiber One. I love that stuff. I cannot explain why.
Fruit: I'm not a big big fruit person. I did have a yummy parfait with berries this morning. Sometimes I eat grapes and apples. But ultimately, meat is way more appealing to me than fruit.
Veggies: Love. Did I say love? I meant LOVE. I roast veggies to bring out the intensity of the flavors and leave the skins on. My favorites are eggplant, zucchini, yellow squash, asparagus and cauliflower. LOVE.
Processed/Refined carbs: I'd be lying if I said I haven't had a cookie or four in the three years since surgery. Luckily it takes a lot less for me to be satisfied with that stuff. And in the end...dessert is the most oft-forgotten part of my eating plan as I always get derailed by...meat!
