Limiting Carbs

I'm allowed to be introducing some carbs back into my diet but I know carbs aren't the greatest thing for me. Do you all limit your carb intake? What are some good guidelines for limiting carbs in a day??

I limit my simple carb intake --the "no white food" rule -- but do not really limit the complex carbs as long as I get my protein in first.  Once I get the protein in, there is usually not a lot of room (even now, but MUCH less so early out) for carbs.

No bread
No pasta
No rice
No Potatoes
No sugar

I keep things complex as much as possible

too many simple carbs causes my blood sugar to crash

and simple carbs make people crave more simple carbs.

...of course recognizing that WHOLE GRAIN varieties of bread, pasta and rice exist...

Potatoes? I don't eat them often but I do eat sweet potatoes which are very nutrient rich. White sugar = bad news for me!

Me too! But I do have an occasional Sandwich Thin, in whole grain..I think I can count all the rice, including brown rice, I've had in four years on one hand..

I'd avoid simple carbs as much as possible. I've allowed myself to eat way too many and now I crave them all the time. Going to do  a few days of liquid diet to see if I can de-carb. It's a vicious cycle once you allow it to start. best of luck to you.

Would you consider the sugar in fruit a simple carb?

Hi Carrie.
I don't do a lot of fruit and limit it to berries which are lower in carbs than say, watermelon.  I guess they are complex but some have a ton of sugar.  I think of simple carbs as being processed mostly.  Beans have a lot of carbs too but have a lot of fiber also.

Carrie, no I would not. Fruits and vegetables are sources of complex carbohydrates. Simple carbs are those found in refined products such as bread, rice, pasta, etc.
