For those who run!
I started running a few weeks after surgery when my weight was in the 350’s.. at first, I could barely make it from one mailbox to the next and would walk 3-5 mailboxes and then run again for one mailbox length. I really credit running and pilates with helping me get the weight off and thus far, keep it off.
When you’re starting off remember - baby steps turn into giant strides.. start small and build on it. Start with stretching. I sit on the ground and stretch and then stand and run through some yoga stretches. When you're ready begin with a brisk walk, nice long strides and a steady pace. If you start immediately with a run, you'll tire quickly and won't make it to the 20 minute time mark that really makes cardio beneficial. I used the mailbox trick to begin. Anything that marks how far you have to run and shows an ending point is useful. I've been running now for 7 months and am up to 6-7 miles depending on the weather, humidity and my interest level that day. Never in a million years did I think I'd get here.. you can do it! Good luck!
