Stuff to Know About B12

You can also  get injections on line.  Though if you have insurance - it may be much, much cheaper. I got prescription, and got enough for 20 shots, (B12 and needles) and the cost was under $15 for all. Most people need one injection per month.
The needles are so small...and that is so easy to do, that I do it myself.  Unless you are in a doc office for other things - just going there for B12 may cost you a copay (In my case - $25).  + the time...
BTW: I always get energy surge when I get B12. The more deficient I was - the bigger the "surge" so make sure you get B12 - pills or injections in the morning.  Or that may prevent you from getting a good night sleep.

B12 is the only thing I have ever had issues with.  The monthly shot only gets me through 2-3 weeks before my labs start hitting the low 500s.  A quick discussion with my PCP and I was moved to every other week which I do at home.

Now I know exactly when I start to tank on my B12 levels.

I actually do my shots weekly.  the once a month guideline from the ASMBS is just a starting point.  We all need to adjust our supplements based on our labs.  I'm glad your PCP is on the ball.

Kelly!  Thanks so much for this information!!! Seriously.

I've been bruising terribly lately.  All someone has to do is gently squeeze my arm and I will bruise.  This has never happened before.  I asked my surgeon's office about it and they said my iron was coming up.  B12 is NOT good it is in the 100's.  I've been taking REGULAR b12 in pill form; once a day 500 mcg!!! Could this be why?

I'm ordering the patches stat!! I'm worried.

Well, your B12 is dangerously low and taking it in regular pill form is why.  Are you tired?  Depressed?  Got numbness or tingling in your hands?

But it shouldn't cause bruising.  What's your iron level?

Yikes!

Get you the sublingual today.  Take it aggressively AND ask your PCP for injections.  Weekly to start.

I was told to take 1000 mcg everyother day and I use a sublingual. I get it at walmart for $4 a bottle and theyre YUMMIE! Ive actually started take it everday though since I was TOLD on here that you cant overdose on it so I figured the extra would help. I actually have noticed an increase in my energy since doing so also.

Personally, my surgeon is happier with me on b12 shots. On medi-cal it's not covered but it's only $12 for a 4 month supply. It's not hard at all to give yourself a shot either. The b12 is covered but not the needle/syringe - - go figure.  I was severely low though and I am on 1mL each wee****il my levels come back up to a semi-normal range.  B12 deficiency sucks...my shoulders down to just before my armpit have permanent numbness which is NO FUN!!
