some stuff to know about protein

Yes, it's tied to your goal weight.

I should add that we all absorb things a bit differently, though.  So you and I could have the same goal weight but maybe you absorb protein a bit better than me for some reason so I could end up needing a little more.  Your labs will tell you that.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

Well, darn.  That kinda ruins my whole plan.  My surgeon's plan is for 2 cups daily of milk (skim).  I'm only doing the one shake in the a.m.  Then, I'm doing really good with 2 meals (lunch and dinner)  protein first.  No snacking.

So, the reason for staying away from sugar if calories and if you dump?  I don't dump.  I am tolerating the shake very well.

I like the coffee flavor of click.  I saw I think at Nik's site where you could add a tiny bit of the instant espresso coffee. That still leaves me with the caffeine.  But I would cut down on sugar.  And I could add more than just one scoop of my vanilla whey protein.

What do you think?

Thanks for the good info Kelly. Like others I try very hard to get in enough protein. I am usually 70gr or more a day.
Pretty interesting about the dry skin/rash. I have had this unusual dry rash that has been rotating around my body since after surgery. Nothing seems to work on it. I guess I should see the Dr. about it. Just seems silly to go for a rash. But I will also work harder at getting in more protein. This is all a learning curve to get enough protein in, right amount of calories, fats, carbs etc. I try very hard to eat healthy, including raw foods etc.
Thanks again for the great info.

Thanks for that handy protein formula.
I've heard so many different recommendations about how much protein grams to shoot for, from scanty lows of 50 to impossible and kinda bizarre highs of >120.

By this formula  I should get right about 70 grams of protein daily, and that's achievable without having to do anything too odd or extreme with my eating.

I had bilateral leg surgery 2 weeks ago.  I use a walker to get around and I'm in school some days 12 hours a day.  Getting the proper nutrition in since getting around is difficult and I'm stuck on campus and can only lug around so much in my backpack has made my diet less than ideal.  It wasn't perfect before surgery and it's been terrible since.  Other than my morning serving of cottage cheese, fruit, and pecans, I'm not meeting any of my minimum food goals.  Vitamins are fairing better but I need to be more diligent about them.  I know I'm slowing my recovery time by not eating well or enough (I'm guessing I'm averaging about 500 calories a day right now) and just had a serious talk with myself a couple days ago about that.  My schoolwork is suffering and I feel terrible.

So I guess what I'm saying is, find the way to meet your protein goals and I'll work on taking my own advice.
