Protein SNacks

Hi All,
Quick question, I am a little over two months post op but still on soft foods b/c of stricture (had one dilation, going to have another in the next week or two).  I am not ready to start branching out to regular food yet but I have tolerated melba rounds very well.  I'd like everything I eat to have protein and found Bariatric Diet Protein Snacks website with protein pretzels, chips, etc.  They are all relatively low in calories but pack a decent amount of protein (at least 10grams per serving).  Since I am limited as to what I can get down, these look like a good alternative to yogart, pudding, etc.  Anyone have experience with these products or ones similar?  Any input is greatly appreciated.

Hope everyone is doing well and staying cool.  It is hot here in NJ and my school is closing early tomorrow b/c of the heat YAY!!

Thanks,
Jodi

I use a generic whey isolate protein in oatmeal and SF pudding often.  Here are a few others that I also use often:  soynuts are 15g protein per 1/4 cup, dry roasted edamame is 14g protein per 1/4 cup, wasabe peas are 7g protein per 1/4  cup (but hot too), dried peas are 6g protein per 1/4 cup....All of these are very likely less expensive than those snacks you mention.  Nutritional stores usually stock these items, or you can find them online.  The snacks I mention seem to be tolerated by post ops that are 9 weeks or more post op.  Dave

Where do you buy the dry roasted edamame? I buy the frozen ones, stream then refrigerate and eat as snacks. I also love the wasabi peas.

I found several items like these over the past 4 years. My profile page lists my personal web site, where these and other items are listed.  I need to update it, as I just found a generic soy unflavored protein powder last week.  The unflavored whey isolate protein I use is also noted there. The dry roasted edamame is lightly salted, has a firm texture and tastes similar to pistachio nuts. DAVE

I haven't heard of those, but I love Kay's Natural's products.  They have all kinds of stuff.  http://kaysnaturals.com/  I haven't tried anything from them I haven't liked.  They are treats, but delicious treats.  Some of their products are cheaper on Amazon than directly from them.

You can also try adding unflavored protein to your other foods.  I do that a lot to make sure I hit my goal of 100g of protein.  I am just getting off soft foods at just under 2 months out.  I was put back on soft foods due to an ulcer, but now I'm cleared to eat whatever I want.  I feel your pain on being stuck in a rut as far as what you can eat.  Hopefully you find something that you like soon!

I do not eat any kind of crunchy protein snacks because I do not like the way they taste (and part of my "new life" is enjoying everything I *do* eat), but I also avoided them because I felt it would be FAR too easy (for me) to go from eating protein pretzels to eating regular pretzels, chips, etc. and the simple carbs are the biggest threat to maintaining weight loss.  Whatever you are considering purchasing, be sure to check the carb content... just because it has protein does NOT necessarily make it a good choice.
