Where can I get Proferrin ES?  I checked on Amazon, it was unavailable there.  I checked Walgreens online and it doesn't seem to carry it.

Thanks

Vitalady sells it -- and I normally buy from her because she is one of us.

Or you can get it directly from the source at proferrin.com -- And make a note -- I make no money from this. I've just had great results from it.  From a blog post I just did -

12/2/2009
HGB – 12.6  (12.0 – 18.0 g/dl)
HCT – 39.7%  (37.0 – 51.0%)
Ferritin – 11.1  (11-137 ng/ml)
Iron – 41  (37 – 170 ug/dl)
TIBC – 310  (265 – 497 ug/dl)
Iron Saturation – 13%  (20-55%)

1/4/2010

HGB – 13.13  (12.0 – 15.0 g/dl)
HCT – 38.21%  (35.0 – 49.0%)
Ferritin – 16.3  (6 – 81 ng/ml premenopausal *which seems odd cause post is 14-186….?*)
Iron – 45  (28 – 182 ug/ml)
UIBC – 326  (130 – 375 ug/dl)
TIBC – 371  (180 – 545 ug/dl)
Iron Sat – Not measured

3/8/2010

TIBC – 344  ( 250-450)
UIBC – 255 (150-375)
Serum Iron – 89  (35-155)
Iron Sat – 23%  (15-55%)
Ferritin – 23  (10-291 — with a notation that they are changing to 13-150 for Females)

I’ve been on the Proferrin now for a year and a half and I thought I’d throw an update up -

Hgb — 14.0 g/dL  (11.5-15.0)
Hct — 41.9%  (34.0-44.0)
TIBC — 333 ug/dL  (250-450)
UIBC — 217 ug/dL  (150-375)
Serum Iron — 116 ug/dL  (35-155)
Iron Saturation — 35%  (15-55)
Ferritin — 20 ng/mL  (13-150)

It’s obvious the Proferrin is doing its job. All of my numbers are moving upwards.. with ferritin just being a touch sluggish. That’s not that unusual, though.

Hemoglobin up 1.4 points
Hemtacrit up 2.2%
Serum Iron up 75 points
Saturation up 22%
Ferritin up 8.9 points

@Kelly:  you are exactly right.  I was NOT on top of it.  I was horrible.  Half the time I never even bothered getting my labs drawn.  Then I had that horrible scare late last August, and am STILL trying to get levels back up.  I am incredibly anemic (my surgeon said to actually consider myself "bankrupt" as far as any retained iron - I have none) and I've always had problems with getting enough calcium - had been actually hospitalize PREOP for that - of course it has only gotten worse since surgery.

My understanding is that these high doses were only needed until my levels get higher, but it is taking much longer than they thought it would so they keep raising the doses.

@Andrea:  Yes, I had what you could call a cardiac issue.  I had my second episode of Sudden Cardiac Death Syndrome or Ventrical Tachycardia in August.  Survival rate for one episode is estimated at 5% tops.  There is a 1% chance of surviving two episodes.  I  literally will not survive another episode.  During the one in August, my family was actually called home from all over the country to say "goodbye" to me - they had put me on a respirator and were just trying to keep me alive until my folks and daughter could get here.  I was quite the oddity in the hospital while I was there after I woke up - many docs and nurses stopped in to say how very fortunate I was.

The vites/iron/protein levels were not the only cause, but they were a major factor and since I can actually CONTROL or at least affect those levels I am trying really hard to be vigilant now.

My D is very, very low, I take 50,000IU of dry vitamin D from Vitalady daily. And it's still low.  Is PTH thyroid?  If it is,yes it is out of control as well and I see a specialist tomorrow for that actually. I have never had thyroid problems before, but my nephrologist was looking at my labs for something else the other day and asked me if I'd gained weight recently for no apparent reason (yes), if I was cold sometimes (yes) and if I was very tired (yes - but I had always thought that was the anemia).  He said he's pretty sure I'll be put on synthroid or something similar.

Anyway, I have a question for YOU.  I thought carbonyl was the better iron, excepting the heme. So shouldI change to pro-ferrin?   Is the pro-ferrin another name for heme? I know it costs more but not having to spread this stuff out so much would be incredible.

Thanks so much for taking the time to post you guys=)

Proferrin is a brand name for heme iron.

Thanks Kelly, I was kinda thinking that but wasn't sure.  Do you know how I would convert the 90mg 3x day of carbonyl to the heme?

That I am not sure.  Check with Andrea or vitalady.  It'll really simplify your vitamin plan, though.

PTH is parathyroid hormone. TSH is thyroid stimulating hormone.

If your D is crap, your PTH will be high. Which is bad. High PTH means you are pulling calcium into your bloodstream from your bones. Which can mess with your heart -- either too high or not enough left to mess with. So either way, you're in trouble. So good that you're taking the Dry D already.

There is no conversion from carbonyl to heme, but if you are that low? I'd do 3 a day.

Well, they did tell me my calcium was being leached from my  bones so that (PTH) must be what they were talking about.

I found the Proferrin at Vitalady.   My husband is gonna cry when he sees the price difference.  Oh well - I'm done making compromises involving my health.

Thanks so much you guys!!!!  =)

You were on death's door. He'd cry more if you died. Remind him of this.
