I've had two instances of my blood sugar dropping into the 50's this past week. Once when I was exercising (treadmill)and the other time before I got out of bed in the morning. Any ideas?

Welcome to either regular hypoglycemia or reactive hypoglycemia. Very common post-op.

Yep, started happening to me about 2 months ago and I'm 26 months post RNY.

I'm getting it under control with more frequent smaller meals, adding some fat with complex carbs - I'm recovering from plastic surgery 2 weeks ago, so still trying to get to my "happy spot" with meal combination/timing, etc.

Endocrinologist has me on Victoza injections to help the gut empty slower and thinks it may help with the RH.

I don't eat simple white carbs and limit sugar to 9 gm or less per serving size.

I'm working with bariatic surgeon office, dietician and endo doc.

Best wishes.

I have been hypoglycemic my entire adult life.  I find that eating some fruit before a workout helps to boost up my blood sugar, because when I exercise mine drops considerably.  I also have problems in the morning, and get rid of that with a high protein snack, and some fruit.  I also keep some fruit in my purse just incase.  I have been known to pass out at the grocery store,  my daughters school and at work.

I am still pre op- so Im not sure how my hypoglycemia will react after surgery.

Good luck!  If it continues or gets worse,  please discuss it with your doc.  I also see an endocrinologist for my hypoglycemia.

Best wishes!
Amy
