Just curious... for those who developed ulcers post-op...

I am pre-op but since I tested positive for h.pylori I am very interested and concerned in regards to ulcers. I have a couple of months before it is even submitted to my insurance, but this gives me some pause

I have had an ulcer.. and I do drink diet soda, however, I did not start until the ulcer or there abouts - to help with the nausea.
My ulcer was caused by my pouch rejecting my sutures and then said sutures poking my pouch until there was an ulcer...I've had to have them clipped out during an endoscopy three times now...

hey Lora, I got an ulcer at 5 weeks out, I think because I wasnt taking enough of the Omeprozole.  Once I did the Carafate and started taking the meds correctly, it seemed to go away and I have not had any problems since (knock on wood!)  I did take alot of ibprophen prior to surgery for headaches and to help me sleep.  I dont seem to get as many headaches anymore, and when I do, Tylenol seems to work fine.  I dont do pop or caffeine.

As for symptoms, mine was a burning all the time in my stomach area.  At its worst (and this took about 2 weeks) I was unable to even tolerate water, only getting in about 20 ozs.  I called the surgeon and went to the ER.  I was dehydrated.  They did a scope and found the ucler.   It did not feel like I was neasous (sp), just hurt.  That probably isnt a great description but....
Become what you believe..........  I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Lora,   first let me say I always appreciate your posts, since I have gotten alot of information from you.   I am one year out have lost 139 lbs and they fould two small ulcers with scope about 2 months ago.  ( I had discomfort - a burning sensation and sometimes couldn't keep food down).   I have not taken any nsaids since surgery (although it was my drug of choice prior), I don't drink coffee and weined myself off all soda pop months before my surgery,    I do use Lipton diet green tea which does have caffine.    I a being treated with Carafate and have been doing fine after about two weeks after  begining it.    H-pilori  tested fine prior to surgery----dr. said it was fairly common for post surgery RNY.    Hope you find this information helpful.

I have had ummm 3 ulcers in my 11 months of post-op life.

I take no NSAIDs not even COX-2 when told by my GI that it would be ok for the 3days I was asked to take them.

I don't drink any soda
I only drink decaf.

My Ulcers occured at 5 weeks post-op 11 weeks post-op and then again at what 7 months post op.  The last time was my fault as I changed my schedule and didn't update my med alarms so I was not home when the alarm said TAKE NEXIUM!.

According to my GI I get ulcers because of the amount of acid produced in my pouch.  It drips through the stoma onto the intestines in the same place, and your intestines aren't designed to handle this.

Kind of makes me rethink the whole No Calcium Carbonate because it requires stomach acid, but I stick with my Citracal.

I developed two bleeding ulcers about 3 weeks after my rny surgery.  I couldn't keep any food or water down and everything just hurt to eat.

No NSAID's after surgery, but did take advil and ibuprofin prior to surgery.
No soda of any kind after surgery
No coffee until I was in the hosptal for the ulcers and it was decaf.

I was really sick for a few weeks and in the hospital for 8 days.  I went home with a Picc line and TPN.  It was the worst experience in my life, but I would have the RNY surgery again tomorrow if given the choice.  I am hoping they can remove my Picc line soon and I can get back to some kind of normal.
