I might lose my job because of this surgery.
I am so unbelievably frustrated. Originally I went on leave at my job and came back a couple times but ultimately didn't come bac****il two months out. Since then I went to the hospital once so I had to leave and left early twice. Well today I just can't stop throwing up so I had to leave. I don't know why I'm throwing up either. It's like I'm throwing up nothing. I only had some yogurt for breakfast which I have every morning. I was doing this all through the night too. So I left early today and I talked to my boss and found out they might have to fire me because of it or I might have to go back on personal leave until I'm feeling better. They don't understand that 3 months out I'm actually doing pretty good and that some days are just bad days. I don't want to go on personal leave because we need the money so bad and most days I can handle work. Also my job security is iffy even on personal leave. My boss said if they did fire me it would be on good standing so I could reaply but who knows if I would actually get the job. I am SO FRUSTRATED.
I understand I did lose my job after surgery I had to go into the hospital 2 times and had days where I just could not stop throwing up ...so I lost my job! I am 100% better now and can not find a job so my advice to you is try to stay at work if you can , jobs are few and far between . I promise I am living proof It will get better just try to hand in there!

Do all you can to keep your job because you might not have another one for a long time. Don't take any more time off no matter what. Wile I was pregnant with my kids I had the most terrible nausea and vomiting you can imagine. As a last resort I was put on a Zofran pump for anti nausea and still went to work without complaining with the pump attached. Everything will get better with time. Hang in there and if anyone asks how you are doing tell them that you are feeling great. You don't need to be fired for this. Good luck.
OP- I agree you need to check into FMLA. If you've been there a year and there is at least 100 people working there you should be okay, but you'll have to get paperwork filled out by your surgeon. Do everything you can to keep your job. My DH and I both have Master's Degrees and when he got laid off last year he was unemployed for almost 9 months before finding a new job. I've been searching for almost 3 months with not a glimmer of hope in finding one.
Beatrice, I had a Zofran pump both times I was pregnant. I hated having to stick myself, but it helped so much with my nausea. I think total between both pregnancies I gained 20 pounds and both my kids were small due to the hyperemesis. You're the only other person that I've heard of having a Zofran pump. It turns out mine was caused by a hiatal hernia and now that it is fixed I'm hoping when we have another I don't have to deal with it again.

I hope you feel better soon! We had someone on my campus who had a lot of issues like you are having, and she was labeled as "unreliable" (still working here years later though) and it was because of her that I chose to keep my surgery to myself. I couldn't afford to be labeled unreliable....and I prayed like heck that I wouldn't have issues she had.
On an entirely unrelated note, I LOVE your new avie. I always thought you were beautiful from your earlier avatar.... but you now look five years younger and still just as beautiful.

OMG, tell your surgeon/doctor!! Have him/her write notes to document that this is a medical problem. I agree with the others that you should fill out FLMA paperwork to protect your job. If they fire you, file a complaint against them or sue them if you can. It's ridiculous the discrimination that obese people face and then the adversity we face when we try to do something about it.
I'm so sorry you're having the pukies today! And you HAVE been doing a lot better, so don't let what the boss says get you off that positive mental track. You work for a big enough company that FMLA should be the first thing you look into ASAP. This is something you can't control and if you could you would, so don't beat yourself up about it. And if they do "let you go" (b/c the "f" word is bad), think about sueing the pants off them for discrimination??

I'm sorry your employer is giving you such a hard time. As the others have said, check into FMLA. Also, see if your surgeon can give you something for nausea. My doctor routinely gives compazine which doesn't make you sleepy.
