Muscle does NOT weigh more than fat

Yes, I am neurotic. I'm a writer. Words/phrasing matters to me.

To that effect, muscle does not weigh more than fat. A pound of muscle and a pound of fat both weigh the same amount.

The difference is that in a given space, more muscle fits than fat. So if I had a given space where 10 lbs. of fat could reside, perhaps 20 lbs. of muscle could fit in that same space. So the reason why you can gain weight when you gain muscle is because you are replacing more muscle than you once had fat. This only goes for a certain amount of weight gain though. Muscle BURNS fat more effectively so you should see the scale start coming downward again eventually. That is to say, excessive gain is probably NOT muscle gain.

I just hadda get that off my chest.

You may now return to your regularly scheduled normalness...

Now...wait a minute! I did "loose" weight. Cuz my weight is very loose nowadays. It jiggles and wiggles EVERYWHERE it's so loose!

The more accurate statement would be that muscle is "denser" than fat. But that usually elicits a quizzical look from people which is why MOST OF THE TIME I leave people alone for this inaccurate statement. But I couldn't take it anymore!

Don't forget you can't turn fat into muscle or muscle into fat.  They are of a specific cell type structure.  You can reduce the amount you have of one and replace that volume with the other but they do not convert from one to the other.

Yes that too. I've seen so many people say they "let their muscle turn to fat."

It makes me shake my head.

The other day my youngest asked me "Mom, what weighs more a lb of feathers or a lb of rocks?".  My oldest said "they weigh the same".  I had to explain to the youngest how a lb is a lb is a lb.  This was a bonus question on one of their test at school.

Thank you!

Also, you cannot lose fat cells.  You can gain them.  But, during weight loss, fat cells shrink, but do not "leave"....just interesting info for y'all!
