What is the most  useless piece of weight-loss or weight-loss surgery advice you've been given so far?

RNY Gastric Bypass 1-8-08 350/327/200 (HW/SW/CW). I spend most of my time playing with my food over at Bariatric Foodie - check me out!

Mine would have to be "eat only when you are hungry."

Yeah...which hunger would that be?

Physical hunger? I don't feel it. I can tell when my pouch is empty and feel my energy dip but 9 things out of 10 can trump that feeling. I don't get hungry very often and thus would NEVER eat.

Head hunger? Well hell, that'd have me eating 24/7.

To me that's a crock. I eat on a schedule based on the number of calories I'm supposed to get every day. I don't skip meals. I eat when I am supposed to regardless of if I am "hungry." I know how to space my meals and drinks now so that my pouch is empty by meal time.

I went to a group meeting... (yes I still attend and enjoy them.)  The Dr. was basically telling everyone to like themselves and eveything will be okay.

I disagree with this and think its useless advice because I like myself quite a bit, obese or not, and I am still discriminated against because I am fat... and as long as our society is brainwashed to only accept GQ and Glamour it will be like this.

...and the fact that in order to like yourself, sometimes everything has to already be okay. Or at least it has to not suck.

Get all of your protein from food only -- while eating only 3 meals a day with no snacks.  Starting at 6 weeks post-op.

From my Nut..... hmmmmm....

I think it's an over-reactive response, to try to head off the risk of grazing. I think you can and should have small snacks between meals - low-fat, high protein snacks, of course. I get up at about 6:30am, and go to bed at around 10pm. Three meals a day, no snacking, would be about one half cup meal every five hours.

Even if I don't feel hungry in my stomach any more, I can feel my blood sugar bottoming out. I get tired, and headachey, and I can't concentrate. That's just too long to go on nothing between meals, and running on empty is for hours is not going to help me metabolize the food I am eating.

I was sort of thinking the same way.  They made the rules so strict because they knew nobody would follow them and hopefully not following it wouldn't deviate by much.  I dunno.  I'm sticking to the plan for now.

That's what my NUT said too except mine started at 3 weeks.  Also 400-600 calories a day.  Not saying it's wrong but ....
