Random Poll o' the Week: Uselessness....
My mother calling me the day after surgery telling me it's a bad idea and that I should just follow her quack of a nutritionist's advise on what to eat/do to lose weight! Um...mom, surgery's already been done! VERY pointless!!
Or
People who haven't had the surgery telling me what I should and shouldn't do because they know someone who's aunt's cousin's half sister's mother had it and they died from eating certain things or gained all their weight back from eating certain things!

Went to a support group meeting this week. The nut was giving a presentation - I walked in about 20 minutes late. The topic was supposed to be dining out. She was walking through how to eat healthy and I think she got it off the american heart association website. I thought I stumbled into a weigh****chers meeting or something. Most of the advice didn't fit with anything I've learned about being a post-op and how we have to eat. I was thinking, what the heck - I thought she was good, but she must have lost her mind, or forgotten she was talking to bariatric people. I especialled loved the - order water when you go out to a restaurant. Somebody actually had to ask about drinking with meals and she was making it very confusing. Go figure...

Two things that never sat well with me:
- keep your calories at 1000 per day forever. That was fine for the first year or two, but it's ridiculous after that. I notice my surgery group is now telling patients to stick with 1200 or so.
- don't rely on protein shakes/drinks as a long term post-op. This would be impossible for me. I do not eat a lot of meat or poultry, no fish, and not a lot of other typical "high protein" foods. I rely on... and LOVE my protein shakes. I have at least 12 different flavors of protein powder and never hesitate to try a new one.
