OT- My hubby doesn't want a kitten

Kittens are cute and loving and wonderful and yet my husband gets so upset when I try to convince him I want one! We already have a cat so he thinks that is enough but he knew that I wanted multiple cats from the start. We have enough room and we enough money for it. Our cat would probably like a friend if they got to know eachother hopefully. Any ideas on how to get him to cave on this kitty-ordeal??

Well, why doesn't he want one?  Is it the mess?  The work of feeding them and cleaning the litter box?  The expense?  Geez, cats are costly little boogers, aren't they?  One of mine just had to have surgery on an infected leg.

Anyway, what's his objection?

My husband is the same way!  But if it were up to me I'd have my own mini-petting zoo or something.  When I was working on getting a puppy we came up with a "deal" and everyday for 30 days I had to go walk(/jog when I could) 3 miles and he'd go with me to make sure I actually followed thru.  It was tough, because I was at my heaviest then, but I did it.  And got my puppy.  So, maybe something like that will work?   And then about a year later I talked him into another puppy because we were buying a house and our dog would finally have a yard.  I thought he'd be lonely outside all day by himself, so that appealed to my husbands logic, and boom, I got another puppy. Hope that helps!

He thinks we don't have the room and he doesn't want to pay to for the spaying. Any idea how to get cheap spaying? UGH i need to convince him.

Call the animal shelter near you and ask where you can get low cost spaying.

Animal Welfare League in Gaithersburg often has reduced-cost spaying. They often have kittens for adoption too.

I wish there was a nice way to convince husbands to get their wives things.... :P

I always figured it was better apologize later rather than ask first...once you own the kitten, it is much harder to say "no".  Many towns have reduced cost spay neuter clinics.  Also prices vary greatly from vet to vet so call around.  The difference between a cheap and a costly procedure is normally the additional services such as EKG, pain drugs, etc.  Did you take the cheap way out for your surgery?  Would you have preferred to have it without those little "extras"?  Sorry, but it bugs me that people think pet surgery is the time to skrimp on the $$.  I know pet ownership isn't cheap, but people need to realize this BEFORE they take in an animal.  ETA: the cheap spay/neuter clinics are assembly line surgeries and literally the vets are expected to perform MANY per hour to make the up the costs.  My vet worked in one for 1/2 day and was let go for not being fast enough.  Can't remember the numbers they wanted, but she could only manage 3/hour and that wasn't good enough!

If you adopt an adult from a rescue org, it would likely already be spayed/netuered.

I usually waited for my husband to do something really stupid that made me mad then he was more likely to cave.   Fortunately for me, it was never a very long wait :)

Good luck on the kitty pursuit!

Where I live, if you are adopting from a shelter all animals are spayed/neutured before adoption. Adoption includes spay/neuturing and UTD on shots. And average adoption fees are 50 to 70$ depending on the animal. Personally, I would rather adopt from a shelter which are always full of kittens too at this time of year, and also young cats and older. I have 3 cats, all 10+, and recently just put my 4th cat down from intestinal lymphoma cancer :(. I want another cat but I know right now is not the time for me. Cats do like having another cat around. They enjoy the company and it keeps them busy - you can google that too. Maybe showing him that cats like to be with another cat would help you a little on convincing him.

Well there is low cost spay neuter programs in nearly every area. And as for not having the space for another cat, i live in appx 400 square feet studio apt and i have TWO cats. Cats dont need much room...they sleep most of the day for crying out loud. Im SUCH a cat lover its pathetic lol. Id have a house full if I could afford them. THinking of getting another one actually...good luck getting your kitty!
