Do you ever feel lonely?

Sometimes, after the surgery, I just feel lonely. Even when I'm with people and even when I'm with my husband I feel like this. The surgery was the hardest thing I have ever done. I was not a lucky complications-free patient and work is fed up with me calling out and being at the hospital. Sometimes I just feel like I'm trapped in my own head because of the surgery and that no one really understands just how hard it is. People don't understand what it is like to feel sick or full or have no enjoyment in food anymore. Even though I know this is temporary and that I WILL feel better and this all will be worth it. It helps that I have OH and this forum. I think I just needed to vent tonight. I'm not trying to always complain a lot on here. I am not regretting the surgery but I do know so many emotions go hand in hand with the surgery. I am definitely going to start seeing someone about this all but I would love some support with you guys.

Thanks for listening.

You're not alone in how you feel.  I had surgery the beginning of April with the support of my grown sons.  My one son only ever wants to know how much I've lost always thinking that I should be further down in my weight than I am and what I am eating then he goes into his lectures. Like I went through all of this just for the heck of it.  My other son is quite supportive.  When I email them of NSV's he is the one that I can always count on hearing from with much enthusiasm and encouragement.  I live alone so I rally have no one to share what I'm going through on a daily basis.  I have told no one about my wurgery but my immediate family.  I have to watch what i eat at work as to not get sick.

I have followed you trials and tribulations of your surgery, I am sorry that you have had a hard time of it.  I do hope things start getting better for you.  Take care.

This surgery can be a very emotional journey.  Sometimes, even when family and friends are supportive, the fact that YOU are the only one who is having to change what you're eating, drinking, etc.  and no one else is really SHARING in what you are having to do -- not to mention the physical issues that you have had to go through --  can be very isolating.

Hang in there, and know that there are plenty of people here who know how hard various aspects of post-op life can be.  We might not have had the physical probelms you have had, but we all have issues of some kind at some point, whether they are physical, emotional, or psychological.

You are not alone in your feelings.  Feeling different can be isolating.  Being sick can be isolating, too.  I hope you feel better soon, emotionally as well as physically.

I've even read that the weight loss affects our hormones - so some feelings may have a physical basis.  Maybe a counselor could help you talk out your feelings.  Sometimes just expressing ourselves can help us.

I also feel alone with my RNY troubles. I am a single mom of two very young kids and don't really speak to any adults about the surgery or my complications. I'm so glad to have this forum! You are not alone feeling the way you are, just try to deal with it the best way you can.
