Questions regarding gall bladder removal after RNY
I know the symptoms...I know it has to come out, I'm just waiting for approval..I'm just wondering, did any of you have lots of symptoms and feel totally better after it was taken out? Did it boost weight loss or did you gain? Easier to eat the foods you need to or harder? I'm curious because i've been having so much trouble just wondering if it will get better after this stupid thing is taken out?!
RNY - August 13, 2010
LBL - October 29, 2012
a total of 271 lbs lost!!
I didn't have "lots of symptoms"... very little pain actually ****il a stone got stuck in the duct and I ended up with pancreatitis, which was horribly painful and lands you in the hospital for several days)... just days during the month before it came out where I just plain didn't feel good... without being able to pin it on anything. The only traditional symptom I had was some queasiness/nausea. As soon as I had the gallbladder out, that ended.
Having my gallbladder out did absolutely nothing as far as my weight (no change in loss, and no gain) and the only way it affected what I was already eating (since I wa not eating highly fatty meals, anyway) is that I have more of a tendency to get gas now.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
It has not done anything to my weight loss. I just had mine out 3 weeks ago. I'm still losing my .5-1 pound each week. I can now tolerate dairy, where as before it was an absolute no. Boy have I missed my milk. I did have lots of pain before they took mine out. I was at the ER twice and the 2nd time there they kept me and took the thing out the next morning. I am a slow healer (like as in feeling normal again after any surgery) so I'm still not 100% but most people bounce back quickly.
My gallbladder came out last February which was 1.5 years after my RNY. Can't say it changed anything with my weight loss because my weight loss has slowed down, which is fine because I am below my goal weight.
I ended up in the ER with severe abdominal pain one night and thought I was dying. I really had no symptoms prior to that. They did an ultrasound of my gallbladder and discovered it was full of stones so the next day my surgeon removed it. The extreme pain was gone...thank goodness.
I would say best to get it out before it lands you in extreme pain like mine did. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. But I can't say it made any difference in my weight loss.
