Well, good.... I'm glad to have provided something you needed, albeit unknowingly. You know we're all behind you here... and want nothing but the best for you.  Go get it!

OF COURSE YOU NEED THE PHD!!!! You're so close. If you stop now, you will always wonder "what if...". Maybe it's the finally doing it after all this time and finally achieving that which you have worked so hard for is scaring you a little, so it's easier to delay it? I could be totally blowing wind, but sometimes crossing that finish line is scarier then the journey because we really don't know what's on the other side. But in the end, getting your PhhD will make you so proud of yourself. Look at how much you have already accomplished. 185 pounds lost, size 28 to size 10/12. Maintaining for almost 4 years. Girl, you are a winner. You can do anything you put your mind to. Now the lawn is short enough, start typing. LOL

Good luck!

Hi Lora,
You so consistently enlighten and encourage so many on here, so hopefully a collective group of you can do it will be enough to get you over the hump. There seems to be somewhat of a disconnect between doctors hearing what veteran patients are saying. I think far too often our concerns get dismissed because we don't have the schooling to truly understand everything or because group think happens on the boards, but we (meaning the doctors) always know best.

I think this is your opportunity to lend valuable input that might actually be heard because you will have the very important letters (Dr. Lara, PhD) attached your statements.

Hang in there. I know it's tough, but imagine how it will feel when you cross the finish line and you are finally Dr. Lara and you get to wear the really cool hat. lol.

Hugs,
Alnita

Yes
While the Dr. may be impressive before your name, it is the insight and education that you gain from the process that will make you an even better therapist than I can surmise you already are.  The payoff is the people you serve and help even more!

Go Girl!!!!!!!

Keep going Lora.  You don't want to be ABD!

I'm getting ready to propose, but my advisor keeps coming up with last minute changes that are driving me nuts!  What's your topic?  I'm doing the Epistemology of Medical Knowledge.  Exciting stuff!

No, you're right... being ABD would be... well, like that "kissing your sister/brother" thing, LOL.

My general topic is on a wholistic approach to trauma (primarily, PTSD) treatment, since just treating the psychological aspects/symptoms of trauma rarely results in the full, comprehensive resolution that clients seek... but changing advisors has been a pain because the new one comes from a very different theoretical orientation than the previous advisor (and me!)...
