Turkey Jerky
I know i'm not ready for it yet because I'm still on soft food but I wanted to know if anyone has any recommendations for good jerky. I know jerky has lots of protien and I have a hard time getting protein in which is why I ask. I want to be prepared for when I am actually ready to have jerky. Is there any soft jerky which doesn't get stuck at all?
I had my rny a week after you and i have already had jerky a few times. I find it so strange..... almost all meat bothers me and makes me sick but i can get jerky in. It is so dry but sits just fine!! Anyways, i dont have any specifics for you as to what kind to eat just thought i would share my little tid bit lol.
I love jerky and like the turkey the most. I find it moister and easier to eat without making my jaw sore.
I started with "Ostrim" which is a ostrich/beef jerky. It is very high in protein and low in calories. (80 calories and 14 grams of protein) It is more of a 'formed' flat stick that is very much softer than other jerky.

I've been eating jerky for some time now... it's really the only beef I've tried that goes down well. I don't eat the regular jerky though... I find it TOO tough... I buy Jack Link's Teriyaki Beef Nuggets... they are a bit "moister".... They have Turkey, Chicken and Ham Nuggets too, but I've only been able to get the beef ones at Target and Walgreens.

I would definately go Jack Links until your properly healed up and can tolerate stuff... I have found that it has very low sugar, and very low carbs. I eat both the original and the teriaki.
RE: making your own. I used to make my own. The problem with making your own, is that if you do not cook it properly the fat thats left on the meat, no matter how little, will go rancid and you can get really sick from it. So I guess what I am trying to say is that, it just isnt about putting slabs of meat in a dehydrator. Soooooo, I would wait at the very least 10-12 months before you start to cook and eat my own jerky... at least you will know that your stomach is all healed up, and not sensitive.
