So I have been having troubles with pooing for a couple weeks now. But over the last few days have been pretty ok. Well today was the most horrific thing in all my life. I have no idea how it got so bad as I was going not much but I was going. Called my doc and I have to go get miralax and take it daily now. She asked to make sure that I was drinking my water and I am. I usually drink more then normal.

So please if you are reading this and are a new post op...If you dont go in a couple days like 2 take something to keep from getting like me. I cant even sit thats how bad the pain is.

Cheryl, I was also having troubles. I had been taking ducolax daily then switched to Miralax.  I have taken the past few days in the morning and evening.  Believe me it doesn't give you diarreha.  Still have to push to get it out.  I go to the Dr. this week so I am hoping they can suggest something different that will really work well. Good Luck with your problem.  I hope you start to feel better soon.

I have not had a dump in almost 3 weeks and my doctor keeps telling me it is normal because I dont eat enough to make a daily poop.

I am voting to change your name to soon2bthin. How do you feel? I'd be hurting after 3 days. 3 weeks?

Are you saying you haven't gone in 3 weeks?  Something is wrong. I don't care how little you eat, 3 weeks, there is something wrong.  I remember when I was a new post op and only on liquids, my surgeon said it might take up 7 days for my first bowel movement and if not, then to use Milk of Magnesia and if that didn't work to use dulcolax suppositories.  That is what I did and all was fine.  I did suffer from constipation at times and then at 2 years out, all hell broke loose.  I didn't go for 5 days and was in terrible pain.  I tried everything and nothing worked.  Went to gastro doc and he sent me for  a CT scan and I had an Internal hernia and a bowel obstruction.  I needed emergency surgery.  Had to get to a hospital in NYC which is 45 minutes away.  This also led to needing 4 surgeries, lots of complications and I almost died.  Now, 7 months later I am still in alot of pain and trying to recover.

Don't let yourself be constipated.  Please get something to make yourself go - dulcolax suppositories or fleet enema.  IF that doesn't work, either go to Gastroenterologist or an ER>

I take Miralax, but ask your doc if you should take a normal dose. I was so bad that I decided not to take iron as it is constipating. Not a good idea. I'm back to iron and eat Metamucil wafers and take Miralax. I'm trying to find a balance that works for me.

I think with in the first 2 weeks I started taking Miralax.  Since I"m now on Stage 4 I'm also trying to eat more fiber.  There's nothing worse than being "clogged".  Hope you feel better soon.

I usually take two servings of Benefiber every day.. sometimes I mix it in my Syntrax Nectar, sometimes in hot green tea.  Benefiber is a tasteless and odorless very powdery substance.  You can mix it in food or liquid.

I also eat a serving of Metamucil Fiber Wafers every day as a mid morn snack at work.  The only thing with the Fiber Wafers is that you must drink 8oz of water with them as per the directions on the package... so I drink hot green tea.

All this fiber tends to make me go every other day, sometimes daily.  I have noticed that the only time this "schedule" is interrupted is if I somehow screw up on my vitamins... like what I took or didnt take, etc.

I had this problem and still do.  My primary care doctor suggested Miralax and I take that but not on a daily basis.  I spoke with my NUT and the one thing about Miralax is your system can start depending on it.  My NUT suggested that I buy Probiotic in pill/capsule form.  I just bought it yesterday so I have nothing to report as of yet.

I am about 10 weeks out so I have not added too much fiber to my diet but I am pretty confident that when I do add more I will be okay.

I was so constipated last week, I used to go at least once a day and all of a sudden it was over one week and I was feeling miserable.  I don't know how you went 3 weeks.  I was in Giant Eagle and picked up their brand Clearlax.  Took it once and within a few hours I went.  No big having to rush to the bathroom, just "occurred".  I have not had to take it again since then.  I actually uped my calories a little and upped my protein and it has been occurring on its own since then.
