I'm in the hospital again and have been stuck like 12 times by 4 different people. They all think I have tiny veins. At least the people yesutrday tried and tried to get a not painful place. This morning when I needed a new IV my nurse just put it willy nilly and it just hurts SO bad.I hate when they don't look for a few minutes to try to find a NON painful vein.

Sorry you are going through this. Are you in the hospital because of your RNY or a seperate reason?

sorry you are in the hosp.  Hopefully you will get will and out soon!

Can you direct them to a better veins, or tell them it is painful and to please go easy?  I know I do not allow any needles ever in the bend of my elbow....those veins are not cooperative.  I always ask them to do the back of my hand or side of my wrist.  Also, my right is better than my left because my left has been used/abused so much.

DO not allow them to put it in your wrist, that is the worst place, especially since your over weight. I was told that by an anesthesiologist. Also, tell them before they start they need to use a butterfly clip. Also, pump your fist, even if they tell you not to, and hold it tight, that will help alot, and you'll think of something other than pain.

I'm sorry you're going through this. I hope you'll get better soon.

I always ask them to give me a lidocane bubble before they put in an IV.  It still hurts not not nearly as bad.  When they do the lidocane it numbs the area.

That happened to my mom once. The nurses hurt her pretty badly. I finally flipped and told them I wanted an anesthesiologist to put the IV in. They are more experienced with threading IVs for people with "tough" veins.

are you able to drink?? before they do the sticks try to drink a lot because your veins are harder to stick when you are dehydrated.

I'm just so glad you DID go to the hospital. Sounds like that's where you needed to be.

Did they discover anything other than the fact that you're dehydrated?

Hope you get over all of this soon. Please keep us posted.

Hang in there! I know how you feel, I am a "hard stick" and they had to re do my IV's almost every day I was in the hospital after my surgery (which was 10 days!)  I hope you can get things figured out for you and on the road to recovery. You've been through so much! Praying for you!
