Discovered a BIG drawback to being "not obese"

I started to type "Discovered a BIG drawback to being thin", but I just do NOT think of myself as thin...

Anyway, I have discovered that I have a terrible time digging in the garden with a shovel and doing other things that I used to utilize my weight for.  With my bad knees, I have to be careful digging, and I just don't weigh enough anymore to force the shovel through compacted dirt.... or to force a garden hook (for hanging plants on) into the ground!

Bummer.  Sort of.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

I'm looking forward to gardening again.  I could get down on my knees, but my goodness, I couldn't get back up.  How embarrassing!  Never thought that when I start back I won't have the strength to force the shovel through the dirt, LOL

Oh how I LOVE to garden. It has always been my favorite thing! I do understand about not being able use your weight. I'm still over 150, so I got some junk in the trunk to use. Tomorrow I am going to plant 3 new rose bushes. I can't wait I just had surgery Saturday but I can't stay inside. It's so nice out. I'm sure I'll regret doing so much though. I've never been one to take it easy. Another lesson to learn...

For me, digging in the dirt is kind of therapeutic.  Unfortunately, the bed I was working in yesterday was in the front yard, and the soil has never been amended at all, so it is hard clay.

I also tried to  move a rock in the bed (well, I moved it a little, just not as far as I had wanted) and apparently strained a muscle in my back.  Sigh.  With the work I did the last 3 nights, though, and the fact that the landscape gut came today to mulch, my yard looks pretty awesome right now!

I think the same way when I walk my dog sometimes. He's so strong, but when I was really heavy, I could plant my feet and he couldn't budge me. Now he's strong enough to pull me over. Thankfully, he's too old to want to run off. LOL

Yeah, I have had Scotties for years, but now that I have the Scottie AND the Chow Chow (who is 8 months old and already 50 pounds), and walk them on a tandem leash, if the puppy pulls, I have to lean backwards a bit to try to leverage my weight against his strength.

Buy a small rototiller, no shoveling required. LOL. Heck when I get the veggie garden ready every spring, I just pull out the big rototiller and go for it. I don't even weed it anymore. LOL. I don't have to hoe that way either. (psst. it's pretty disturbing to hear your kids say your out back hoeing. )
