How do you make yourself eat???

I will be the FIRST person to say that I NEVER thought these words would be coming out of my mouth.  I don't want it.  I don't want to even smell it.  I've had 2 protein shakes today.  That's it.  I go about an hour ago and get a SF jello pudding out of the fridge at work because I feel like I need to eat something.  It's half way gone and I physically can not make myself eat the rest of it.  Does anyone else have this problem?  What do you do?

I am 9 weeks out and completely have my appetite back.  The first few weeks I still had that yucky taste in my mouth peft from anethesia.  Sometimes I wish I still didn't have an appetite.  Everything tastes the same to me as it did before.

If you are still on liquids that's probably part of it.  Once I could do some food it made a big difference to me.

I hope so...not that I want to really start wanting it but I need the energy.

I totally hear ya!  Food does not appeal to me at all - just the smell of things makes me feel icky.  I am basically eating the same things everyday - chicken, yogurt, cottage cheese. It is very difficult, but you have to just do it. It's like medicine. If you can find a couple of things that you can tolerate maybe you can just rely on those.  It has to get better...that is what I keep telling myself.  Good luck, and please know that you are not alone!!!!

Thank you...that helps.  I just need the energy so bad that I want to be able to eat something.  However, if I never get my appetite back, that would be ok I think. LOL

Oh honey you are brand spanking new so this is completely normal!

I was the same way. I just kept plugging away as best I could.

Rome wasn't built in a day though. Just do the best you can and make sure everything is either giving you protein or water intake. Each day it gets a tiny bit easier.

Hope that helps. Hugs. Your effort shines through in your post and that's really important right now.

I just don't want to screw it up.  I'm trying but I feel like I'm fighting against a brick wall.  I do feel better every day.  I know this will get easier as I get it figured out, but it is just so much to try to get in.

I have the same issues at 3 wks out. Its getting a little better though. My hardest thing is the protein...i hate it, even wehn i manage to make a good tasting shake, after about 3/4 of it I just cant drink anymore, blech. And theyre my main source of protein at this point since I cant eat enough to get protein thru my food. I feel your pain :(... And i hvae no energy either and i hate it so bad!

It's almost discouraging.  I think if I had energy I would feel so much better about everything.  It's going to get better.  It HAS to get better.  My doc said not to expect to feel any better at my 6 week checkup.  I know I had that WTH look on my face when she said that.  Guess I didn't take that to heart.

I didn't feel human again until about month 2 (maybe 3).

I didn't like food again until month 4.

Couldn't eat much food until month 4.

Now, three years later (and 140 lbs. lighter) I can eat a decent amount of whatever I choose to eat and all is well.

So yes...it gets better.
