still not right
Happy Mom's Day All!
I am four and a half weeks out - down a total of 45.5lbs - which i am thrilled about BUT..... i still don't feel "right". I constantly have a stuck feeling in my throat and I go in and out of being nauseous. I am still on liquids b/c I didn't tolerate soft foods at only two weeks out. I am averaging at least 50 oz of fluids (if not a little more) and about the same for protein. But i am still pretty exhausted. I have not thrown up for two weeks. I am seeing my surgeon again on Tuesday and saw him last week as well. They told me some people take longer to heal than others. I feel as though I felt better in the Frost two weeks after surgery than I do now. Don't get me wrong, I am very grateful for the weight loss - just want to know if anyone out there experienced the same things.
Hope everyone enjoys their Sunday!

I"m a bit over 3 weeks and it hasn't been as smooth sailing as I'd like but still grateful for keeping by butt out of the ER and no puking!
If you can, try to bump up your fluids & protein. I found mint & ginger teas helped with nausea and helped get fluids in easier. The higher protein intake will help your body heal and I found a big difference in my healing & energy with more protein. Even when it's a day-long struggle to get it all in!
I found one of my biggest discomfort was gas. When I stopped taking the probiotics this week, I started to feel less gassy and felt better. Still no bed of roses but every day is getting a bit easier. I'm on pureed and most go down ok as long as I follow drinking and portion rules.

My doctor had me on full liquids for 4 weeks and I am almost 7 weeks out at this point. There are times (about one time per day) where I can eat a normal meal without feeling sickie. I try to eat two more times a day, but either the idea of eating or the actual process makes me nauseated. I can almost never eat breakfast - at all. Two bites in and I feel sick. I read somewhere to wake your pouch up gently with fuit and yogurt... but I don't know if that will help.
I have actually gone to pretty much eating what I want to, but it was more out of necessity because I was traveling and had dinner meetings for work - so that didn't really allow me to eat many of the proper foods (soft) at a steak house, when you have a choice of potatoes (which I have an allergic reaction to) or rice and pasta which my doctor wants me to avoid until week 9.
Every doctor is different, but I will tell you what I find allows me to transition into a new stage of foods - chew, chew, chew. Even the stuff that should be smooth like pudding - make very small portions go down. If you do take a normal adult bite, swallow in little tid-bits until you get it down. DONT swallow all at once or you will feel pain - trust me. And shortly after that "brick-hitting-the-pouch" feeling hits - you will get severe pain and nausea.
How are you getting your protein in? Do you still have a feeding tube? I had mine for 4 weeks. I will say I am horrible at getting protein - I just can't stand any of the shakes I have tried.

Don't focus on where you are - Focus on where you want to be!
I am about 7 weeks out from surgery now. I feel very lucky to be at home now as I experienced severe complications following surgery and the surgeons said they weren't sure I was going to make it in the beginning. I was in the hospital for 3 weeks before I was finally home for more than 12 hrs. It has now been almost a month since I have been home, and it is only within the last week that I feel more "normal". The first week home I ate half of what I had been able to tolerate while in hospital, and I felt nauseous all the time. When I had gone for my one month check with the dietician, she told me I was not eating nearly enough, but I found it so difficult to eat more than a few spoonfuls. Thankfully in the last week, I have been able to eat more, and I do not feel nauseous anymore. I finally have more energy! Which is needed with 2 young children at home! I do occasionally get that "stuck" feeling, but usually if I wait a few minutes it goes away. So, hopefully you will start feeling better soon, as I was feeling similar a couple weeks ago.
