My surgeon calls for three weeks of liquid diet after RNY surgery. I am at the end of week two and I am going crazy!!! For some reason I really want Miso Soup from Kanki Japanese Steak House. The take home hand out I got when I left the hospital says broth is okay. Do you think Miso Soup would be okay. I don't know how much fat is in it, but I know it sure would taste good right now.

It should be fine, but have just a very small portion at a time to be sure you can handle it.

That's what I had for dinner tonight!  Every place prepares it differently so it's hard to get an exact fat and calorie count on it.  These are the stats on 1 cup from my local Japanese place.  It has a lot of salt in it, but sometimes you just have to sqaush that craving.

The first weeks after surgery, Miso soup was one of my favorites, without the seaweed and tofu.  My NUT basically said it was a good source of fluid, but not so much on the protein front.
Enjoy!

Miso soup mixed with unflavored protein is really good.

I ate miso soup for the first three weeks and I was fine! Now that I am on solid foods, I ask for extra tofu with it for the protein. Miso soup has about 115 calories for 8 ounces so you can't go wrong with it.
