I have to get a reversal......
I'm sorry if I came off harsh yesterday. My frustration isn't at you, it is at a surgeon who would remotely suggest that a 2 month post op who isn't suffering life threatening complications would need a reversal. I realize quality of life is very important, too. I have my revision for exactly that reason, because the quality of my life was terrible. But this was after 8 years of it progressively getting worse. I remember at 1 year post op I suffered my first major complication due to the surgery and the doctor I was seeing at the time mentioned that a reversal would treat the problem and I was aghast. I wouldn't even consider a reversal no matter how sick I was, and I was extremely sick at that time. I don't think I've ever been sicker.
Anyway, the point is, if your surgeon truly is suggesting a reversal at this point, and not a revision, then he is, in my opinion, being very hasty. Now a revision I could see, if say he could go in and reattach the intestine so the opening wouldn't be so small, but to completely reverse before all options have been exhausted and enough time had elapsed to see that it wasn't getting better? Sounds to extreme to me.

Hi There, I had a reversal of my bypass 6 weeks after my original surgery in 2007. If you have any questions for me, I'd be happy to answer them. My story is that I had my surgery and struggled through the entire healing process. I was sick all the time, throwing up, wretching all the time - could not even sip water, as it would come back up. I was having to be hydrated by IV fluids at the hospital. I flew down to Houston Texas from Canada and met with a surgeon familiar with "reversals". Not many surgeons have done reversals but Dr. Naaman has and that is why I flew to him. He specialized in gastric bypass complications and came highly recommended.
I met with the surgeon and he felt I was a candidate for reversal, and operated the next day. Once inside I am not certain what was found, but it was described as an obstruction of my pouch. My procedure involved a Fobi ring around my pouch and somehow was obstructing the pouch and nothing was flowing threw it.
So I had my reversal, and recovery was still rough, but I am here today feeling great, and yes - I still lost the weight. I still have some malabsorption and yes I still feel restriction of my pouch. My pouch is bigger than most, the small pouch was joined to my old stomach and there is a passage between them.
Let me know if there is anything else you want to know. I feel for you. One thing I would like to say to you though is HANG IN THERE. It may get better without a reversal. The recovery of this surgery is long and hard and for some lasts longer than on average. Looking back on my situation I wish now that I would have opted to pursue other ways to solve the complications with out a reversal. In my emotional and physical state however, I made the best decision I could. Take this step slowly and ask lots of questions to your surgeon about other options.
