Three Quick questions - HELP!
Hi Everyone - need to ask.....
1. I am having leg cramps, could I have a potassium deficiancy? I can't find anything about potassium on any of the vitamin supplements I take. I just know from doing high protiens "diets" in the past - this was an issue.
2. I am guessing that I reaaly have to abide by the no drinking 30-45min before/after meals huh? That is hard when you're trying to get in all of your water and eating takes at least an hour - any suggestions? Dumped bad today in between parent teacher conferences - yikes!
3. What does NSV stand for? It's driving me crazy LOL!
I did put a call in to my NUT - she called back when I was dumping and I have yet to connect with her - so I figured I'd post here in the meantime.
BTW - I am just 3 wks out!!
Thanks and lots of love,
Jodi from NJ

Leg or general muscle cramping can be caused by a number of vitamin/mineral deficiencies. Are you taking a multi vitamin more then once per day? Are you taking Calcium and Vitamin D?

Leg cramping can be caused by a deficiancy in potassium. I had this and the only way I know of to determine it is thru blood work. My PCP's office called me and let me know I had a critically low reading and wanted me to eat bananas or drink orange juice. Since I was only 6 weeks out I mentioned that to her so she called my surgeons office. They of course said I wasn't to eat those things that early out and prescribed me potassium pills.
My surgeon's and Nut rule was 15 min before eating and 45 min after eating. Still and hour but it is doable. You just have to make drinking a priority. I always had a glass of water sitting on my desk and constantly sipped. Tried to get 32 oz in before lunch and another 32 after lunch. Course I drank a lot of water pre-op as well so it was kinda natural for me.
NVS - Non Scale Victory.

For leg cramps take magnesium citrate (magnesium oxide helps with constipation).
My program lets us drink up until the time we eat and then wait 30 minutes after a meal to resume drinking.
You already have the answer for NSV.
Other important ones:
OT = off topic
XP= you are posting this one more than one forum (like main and RNY forums)

DD = dear daughter
IMHO = in my humble opinion
There are lots more, but those are what come to mind.

Leg cramps are often a potassium deficiency but can be caused by other deficiencies as well (magnesium and calcium are the ones I am aware of) AND by dehydration.
My surgeon allows her patients to drink up until just before eating, but the no drinking for 30-minutes afterward is pretty much a universal rule.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
