Scar Tissue from Previous Surgeries

Has anyone ran into this being a problem during your RNY?  I had an open hysterectomy 10 years ago and my scar runs up and down.  My doc said that this might be a problem if they can't get their tools where they need to be.  She said worse case scenario is that I will wake up with another open surgery instead of laproscopic.  Between that scar, gall bladder removal scars, band scars, my abdominal area looks like a road map, so a few more should make it really pretty and creative!

My scars didn't cause any problems, thank goodness! I will say that I'm right there with ya on the road map! Hysterectomy, gallbladder, 2 previous laproscopies, then gastric bypass done laproscopic. So many stinking incisions!!! I think I'd rather have the incisions than my fat though.

Good luck!!

I had 3 c-sections (scars running up and down), gallbladder, hysterectomy, LapBand and LapBand removal and now gastric bypass...all was well.  good luck to you

I have a 12 inch long gall bladder scar, hysterectomy scar and scar from a colon resection.  Needless to say, my torso looks like Zorro paid me a visit!

My surggeon was concerned, but knew I really didn't want a open RNY.  I was a trooper.  It took seven hours, but he was able to do it laproscopically. Other than a longer recup time (I was really sore and it was tough moving-the incisions didn't bother me at all though), I have had no complications.

7 HOURS?? Omg.  That's a long surgery!  I don't want the open either.  I remember my hysterectomy and that was miserable!!!  35 staples.  Uhhhh don't want to do that again.

They tried to do my RNY lap, but I had crazy adhesions from earlier surgeries and they ended up with an open.  It was a bit complicated by the adhesions, but the after care wasn't much.  Some manageable pain for a few days, then rapid recovery at least from that.  I had other issues that slowed my total recovery (broken legs)

Try not to fret too much.  At least you can have the surgery and get on the road to health.

I had a c section and hysterectomy before I had RNY and they were able to do laproscopic. My surgeon did say he removed a good bit of scar tissue and I had to stay in the hospital an extra day because it cause a slight fever but otherwise all was well. I may be crazy but I think it actually helped with some issues. After 2 BIG babies and the weight I had a bladder control issue and weird but true when I awoke from surgery I haven't had the issue at all. I can laugh and run and cough without worry.. Good Luck to you.
