Concern over the number of posts asking how soon certain foods can be eaten
Wellll...I wouldn't say THAT is a healthy mentality either to tell you the truth.
In the beginning I wasn't compliant. If I was compliant I would have been eating 800 calories a day by the four month mark instead of 350-400 (which was about what I could bully myself into eating). My protein would have been higher. My water intake better.
But I was trying. I was working at it. You have to give yourself permission not to be perfectly compliant so long as you are trying your best. Don't set yourself up with pass/fail mentalities. Take it one step at a time. This is a HARD process and you won't always do well at it. Some days you'll suck at it and the world will know it (because you've told them!).
I'd say any new post op should aim to follow the rules to the best of their ability. Not full compliance. That can be just overwhelming enough to make you run in the other direction.

RNY Gastric Bypass 1-8-08 350/327/200 (HW/SW/CW). I spend most of my time playing with my food over at Bariatric Foodie - check me out!
I have learned that in my attempts to be successful I sometimes have to be noncompliant. My surgeons nurse was extremely unpleased to learn that my m-f breakfast is typcally Nutrigrain waffles with PB and banana slices. She totally ignored the fact that I then typically do a 1.5 - 2 hour intense workout that involves running, cycling and weights. Ever try to run any distance with zero carbs? Just asking for failure. Besides I typically have burned my breakfast off before I am half through my morning run. Needless to say I was pretty pissed in that here exercise is a huge part of my life now and she only focused on one small aspect of my over all diet.
I still manage to get 100grams of protein, 100oz of water and 1100-1300 calories.

Very well said.
My approach is that I don't consider myself to be on a diet, after all why would someone want to be on a diet for the rest of their life? I have simple adopted a different lifestyle one that is based on Healthy eating and exercise. Granted the exercise gives me a bit more freedom as far as the calories go but I often find myself struggling to get my minimum calories without adding an extra protein shake or bar to my day, beyond my post workout supplement.
My new lifestyle allows me a great deal of freedom that I never knew existed. The freedom to run and play with my kids, the freedom to sit in a booth without my gut rubbing the table, or enter a race and not worry about if I can finish but rather can I beat my last time. This summer I will have the freedom and enjoyment of taking my kids on roller coasters.
I know for me this journey has been one of attitude, and I am a firm believer in the power of a positive attitude, accept and embrace your lifestyle and you will succeed. Be miserable and question the process and you probably will not. If pizza and ice cream need to be such a huge part of your life then maybe you may have made the wrong choice.
Enjoy life or be miserable the choice is really up to you.
