possible link between brand of protein powder and hair loss?

I think that is very honorable to not want to post the name of the protein, as you said you couldn't be absolutely sure...but I too would appreciate knowing the name...or at least confirmation that it isn't the Nectar brand... :)

It would be very interesting if your protein choice truly was the cause...

Thanks for posting.

It was not the Syntrax Nectars. They are the powder that I occasionally use to break the monotony of the "shake" type supplements and I have continued to use those occasionally even after switching back to the Unjury.

This is interesting. I started using Unjury about 6 months after surgery, and about a month after that I noticed my hair was growing back rapidly. Of course, that's probably when my hair was going to start coming back anyway, but maybe Unjury is higher quality or more easily used by the body.

I don't think I ever would have noticed the correlation if you hadn't posted this.

I'm guessing that the other one might have been Body Fortress that is available through WalMart.  Unjury seems to be a really good brand.  I think they may be my favorite milky protein.  Tonight I've got some Syntrax Nectar in my blender bottle.  I recently decided I would go back to having 1 or 2 protein shakes a day to see if that would improve my slow weight loss.  I worry that I'm not getting enough protein.  My hair also started falling out very rapidly recently... so, that has me a little freaked out!

Very interesting.  Also gives me pause as I've been considering venturing out of my comfort zone of Show Me The Whey protein powders.  I've not had much at all in the way of hair loss (and I kept waiting for it to happen after surgery) and I'd like to keep it that way.  Since I can pick it up around the corner and I don't mind it's price, I think I'll keep it as my main brand for now.  Now if I could just convince them to market an unflavored one I'd be happy (it only comes in chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry).

OMG!  I experienced something similar and mine just started breaking and falling out. I switched back and cut my hair and it seems better now.

When you have had your labs done, how is your protein level?  If it was low, then you may not be absorbing but if it is good, it may be something else in the powder.

My labs were fine, but my understanding -- and perhaps I misunderstood -- is that, since it is certain that your body will pull protein from whatever source is available in order to meet the basic functioning needs, the lab work checking for protien levels (as with the calcium levels) is not always very reliable.
