Collagen protein is not "complete" in that it doesn't have all the amino acids necessary, so it is basically worthless for us. I know someone else will come along with a much more technical description, but they aren't worth the money.

HOw do we know if it's whey or collagen protein?  Do you know if Pure Protein drinks are okay?

Look at the ingredients... they're pretty clear about the type of protein..... if it isn't whey isolate listed first, then it probably is just a smidge of whey and a ton of boiled animal skins and hooves.

Yes.  Do NOT waste your money (or your calories) on collagen protein products.  It is, first of all, an inferior type of protein; second, it does not contain all the amino acids that your body requires in order to ABSORB even the inferior protein... so it becomes almost 200 empty calories.

If you do not like the milky type protein powders, try the Syntrax nectar protein powders.

We need the whey isolate... collagen isn't absorbed properly by us. Also, I have read on here that the collagen is made out of boiled animal skins etc... yuck. Really made me gag just thinking of it!! Anyway, whey isolate is the best for us.

I do one serving of collagen pr day. It only has 9 amino acids vs the 21 or 22 (depends on who you ask) needed for a complete chain. I follow shortly with a tasty whey drink, so it completes the chain.

It's nasty, gross and expensive per 30g serving, but I like to think it helps keep some collagen in my skin, slowing down the wrinkling process. That is not factual, only my brain thinking that it might help.

I would never use in place of whey protein.

I LOVE isopure!  it is worth the extra money to be confident of the quality.

I was advised however that we really can't absorb that much protein at once, so I should break up my shakes into two servings because Isopure has so much more then most powders.

I get the vanilla no carb one and add my own sugar free syrups to create flavors I love, so it's enjoyable to mix and match flavors and not get bored. I even have a pumkin pie syrup from thanksgiving time for when i'm craving sweets.

I just bought something called Pro-Stat from bariatric choice, and it's hydrolyzed collagen protein, and comes with 19 amino acids. It was always my understanding that collagen was very abundant in our bodies, 2nd only to water.  That's not to say that it's better than whey isolate, I don't know much about any of this at all. I personally try to stay away from dairy because of a sensitivity and prefer Hemp protein, so I'm really not one to talk.  I bought the Pro-stat because it boasts that it promotes wound healing and is recommended post surgery.
