When is this going to get better?
Just Ducky: I don't think she's trying to force anything or hoping to wake up thin and healthy tomorrow. She's very aware of the fact that she had major surgery as well. She's struggling with keeping just about EVERYTHING down without vomiting... that is or can be a serious issue. Especially since she was doing okay the first week and was able to eat and drink just fine. If she can hardly keep fluids down right now, she's at risk for dehydration and possibly re-hospitalization...as she's already been there once since surgery. This could be a serious issue just a Lady Lithia stated above. Katie: I'm sorry you're going thru a rough patch! Listen to Lady Lithia and call your surgeon. Even if it's not a stricture, you should be able to have a bit more than water and potatoes. It doesn't make sense that you were fine one minute and then can't keep anything down the next. Please call them until they do something. I do NOT want to hear you're back in the hospital! Keep your chin up and hang in there. (I know, easier said than done!) Keep me posted and good luck and don't worry about people flaming you!
A stricture can get bad pretty quickly. Do get the doc to listen to you and get you checked out. The procedure to correct it is so easy and a real relief even for those of us who have had to be stretched more than once.
As for the buyer's remorse, it's pretty normal for those of us who have had some issues. I don't think our surgeons do us a service by not really discussing the possibly of these issues so that we can be prepared. I guess based on what I've read, it took me somewhat longer than most to really feel well, but it will happen. And for me, it also seemed like an overnight thing. One day I was miserable, then woke up the next morning at my new normal.
So, take care of your symptoms, but don't get too worried about feeling normal again, because it will happen for you too. And by the way, depression is a common side effect and should be treated as well even if it is only a short term thing for you as it is for most after WLS. Depression is real, and should be treated.

I am telling you to call your surgeon. I am the same way and I got hospitalized for 2 weeks out of the 4 that I been post op. Dehydration and other complications. I know what this is like, I had scope, CT scans etc...No strictures for me tho. But the major one with me is a reversal. Which must be done. And is in the works now cause my body cannot tolerate the RNY. Call your doc right away! Being like this is not fun, or healthy at all. I wish you the best!
Hi Katie,
I had a lot of trouble with liquids in the beginning too. That made me dehydrated and caused me to feel lousy. All I can say is that it does get better. You are just a few weeks out, it takes some time for your body, and mind, to adjust to things but it WILL GET BETTER! Have you talked to your doctor about your depression? That's a complicated issue with many strategies to improve it, all of which are hard to see when you are in the midst of it.
I think it was around 3 months out when I really started to feel a lot better. Hang in there!

Honey I went through the same thing and even had to have my intestines untangled after getting to a point where everything came back up. Over a year out now I can say....This too shall pass!! You will most likely get to where you can eat most anything and long for the days that it was impossible to do anything but sip liquids! I hate the plateaus more than anything!!! With that said...if you aren't able to keep anything down let your doctor know asap!
