I used to be able to hoover down a costco dog without any trouble. My son still wants them when we go so I buy him one. They always smell so good but everytime I've tried even a bite I've gotten queasy. I miss the convience and taste of hot dogs but my pouch says NO!

agree... for me to eat hotdogs, sausage, keilbasa I MUST take the casing off and chew chew chew like hell and only MAYBE 2 to 4 cubes of it... so I dont bother.... I used either chicken or turkey ones when I DO try them
Babygirl got her surgery March 3rd...     She's from 339 to 200 as of 6/14/2012.. SOO proud of my bigbabygirl

I haven't tried one since surgery.  I plan to much much later maybe.  I do know that I found one I liked pre-surgery was the Oscar Mayer "Lite" ones.  They only have 40 calories in them and I actually liked the taste better than regular ones, but that's just me.  Good luck :)

Now granted, I am much farther out than you, but I have occasionally put a hot dog in my chili.  Chili dog without the bun.  Works for me.

Every now and then I have a Hebrew National All Beef 97% fat free hot dog.
Everything in moderation.
I don't eat it on a bun.

Did you note get any guidance from your surgeon's office? I'm not asking that to be a smart ass. Some people truly don't.

We can only answer your questions about when you can have stuff from our experiences and plans but you should ALWAYS defer to YOUR surgeon's plan. If you don't have something that says when you can eat certain types of foods, you should call the office and ask if such guidance exists. If it does not...sigh...that makes me mad when surgeon's offices don't help their patients out that way.

But I can say at one month out, you should probably be sticking to higher protein items than hot dogs. At this point you need to live, breathe, eat and sleep protein.

Just to give you some guidance, a food with good protein has 1 gram of protein for every 10 calories. So if a food is 100 calories, it needs to have at least 10g of protein.

Does that make sense?

I get exactly what you are talking about. I am on what my doc calls stage 3. I have eaten hot dogs or sausages a couple of times since one month. I get the chicken sausages from trader joes (kinda like a mix between italian sausage and a polish sausage.) I have also eaten a trader joes uncured turkey dog. The size is perfect and the dogs are a great source of protien aaaand I don't have to make different food for my family.

Now and then I have a Hebrew National hot dog too - no bun, no ketchup, just mustard.   I was never a hot dog lover pre-surgery, so it isn't a trigger food for me at all.  One hot dog fills me up to the brim.  Sometimes I just need quick and easy protein.
