Hotdogs??
Katie, I'm only about 3 1/2 weeks post op and I had (only about 1/3 of one, but...) the Ball Park Smoked Turkey franks - they're fat free, 45 cal each, and 6g of protein. There are a few other ingredients - but not in such huge amounts - it's mostly just turkey and some flavorings. It agreed with me. No, processed foods aren't ideal - and I don't eat them often - but if it's a 'once-in-a-while' thing, it shouldn't be a problem.
Turkey dogs and lunch meat (also usually processed) are on my diet sheet (which I read at least once a day to make sure I'm on track! LOL). I would nix the sandwich thin - but that's me. Just my two cents.

Get over it.
Eating hot dogs and other such high-fat, non-nutritious food is very likely what drove you to the point that you opted for WLS. I know that was the case with me.
If you haven't made the mental switch to thinking of food as a necessary evil to maintain good health, and little more, then you might be in for a tough time as your life continues to unfold. It will become increasingly easier to eat more as your surgery recedes into the past. That's a slippery slope.
Eat to live; don't live to eat. Stay healthy.

Before surgery I ate the Bal Park White Turkey Franks. At some point when I can eat them again thay is what I will have. They are my fave healthy dog! I can't wait to roast one on the fire this summer. I do fear I may not be able to do saurkraut again...darn. But at some point a turkey dog with a lil healthy chili without evena bun will be great. I agree that a real gift we can give ourseleves is to discover healthy alternatives to the things we loved before surgery. I don't see it as giving into cravings because I am not eating the nad stuff - just looking for new healthy ways to add alternatives into my diet.
I think some people on here want to jump to conclusions and think the worst of people and want to think people don't want to succeed and go to their old habits. If you read anything that I'm saying you will know that is not what I want. If you want to spend the rest of your life eating crap that you don't make taste good, go for it. I am going to follow a healthy diet for the rest of my life.

Just remember that only YOU know YOU, and accept that people *****spond do so because they care enough to hit that reply button.... even when they don't say what you want or need to hear.
Also remember.... your flooded with hormones right now and if you are anything like I was, you likely take things more personally than your further-post-op self will.... it's just the nature o the beast.
I'm very glad to know that you want to make a good, solid, permanent change to your life. There is nothing inherently evil in a hotdog (unless you ask me after one of my periodic attempts to enjoy one).

Ok, my mom and I had this conversation yesterday. I realize some people may have gotten to 300+ pounds eating ice cream, cake, hot dogs, snickers, coke, wendys, mc donalds, or whatever EVERYDAY. However, just because we have had WLS, does not mean that we are doomed toprotein shakes and salads for a lifetime. It is a TOOL. A tool that you must learn for 6mos-2yrs. You, we have this period to learn portion sizes, learn what our triggers are, learn what deep seeded problems make us over indulge, learn who or what in our lives needs to be implemented to eat a healthy more nutritious lifestyle. I have a friend (My Distant Friend, yes we r still friends) who lost a **** load of weight throu a diet clinic and excercise. Well long story short she is so obsessive about her weight it gauges her entire life. She will not go certain places because the will serve this or that. Or she won't take a certain route in town, because she can smell the coffee or donots or burgers cooking. When you are eating something she doesnt eat,she is like"i havent had thatin years" as she is drooling. I am only a week out, so please dont flame me with your opinions that i do not know what I am talking about. I just think that this is a time to get your actual weight # under control as well as the way we feel and deal with food. Havibg said that, I can not wait to have a hot dog with pickles and onions and mustard. maybe chili also. However when that time comes i know i can eat 1 and keep it moving, not return to the grill or stove 3 more times. I am stepping off my soap box now, Applause is welcome HUGGZ
I agree with you 100%. I want to be normal, and not obsessed with what I can or cannot, eat. I want to eat good, healthy, tasty food in small portions. I want to move and experience life fully.
Oh, and I just had two hot dogs last week, Hebrew National, with ketchup (I'm almost 4 months out). They were great. But I won't have them for a while again.
