Triscuits??
Triscuits are a "good" carb. They are filled with whole grains and are a cracker that contains more grams of whole grain than most of the other crackers out there. Whole grains are necessary for your digestive system and they have a low glycemic index. So they don't affect your blood glucose the way other crackers (i.e. - saltines, ritz, etc...) with high spikes and quick lows. I never liked triscuits prior to surgery. They were too dry and too hard and crunchy for me. But I love them now. I have tried the different flavors. Garlic Parmigan is my favorite flavor. I am unable to eat a full serving, but a full serving contains 23 g of whole grain. Its recommended that we eat about 48g per day. Foods like oatmeal and triscuits are a good source of whole grains. I think moderation is the key with all things and my NUT highly recommends triscuits. Therefore, I too enjoy them with low fat string cheese, tuna, or chicken.
I branched out and tried the Ka****LC 7 whole grain crackers. They are very tasty, but you get less bang for your buck in terms of whole grain. Each serving only has 8 grams of whole grain per serving. And to be honest, I think it produces a high carb craving for me. So I am finishing the box thats in the house and have no intentions of purchasing them again. I haven't spoken with my nutritionist about them yet, but I plan to do so. The feelings I have about the Kashi crackers could be all in my head, but I have to trust my instincts and if it is making me want more carbs then I have to back away from them.
