Complications?? Freaking out a little bit.
Wow...I'm surprised you were sent home the next day. My doctor said that I will be in the hospital for 4 days and they will check me for leaks several times before I go home. I'm hoping that anything that can happen will happen while I'm still there. I'm so glad that you are doing better now. Congratulations on the weight loss. It's very scary but I know this is a step that I'm ready to make. Thank you for the post.

I love my new life!!!
I can agree with everything you are saying. since my sugery Ive had nothing but complicaions, bad ones to where in 2 weeks I am having a reversal done. My body per the surgeon cannot tolerate rny.. sad but true. Some people are ok and can tolerate it, mine...not at all. 4 weeks out and in that 4 weeks i been hospitalized for 2 of those weeks!
wish you the best!

I too had one of those 1% complications. I developed an arterial bleed and had to be rushed back into surgery 12 hours after my RNY. Spent 4 days in ICU and was totally transfused. Then I had two subsequent strictures. All of these are things my doctor warned me about and he was surprised that I had these issues as I was fairly healthy prior to the surgery. Even with all of this, I would do it again in a heartbeat. My quality of life almost a year out is so much better than I could have imagined.
I'm glad my Doc told me this could happen so I wasn't as surprised and he was prepared to handle it. I'm sure your procedure will go like clockwork and the freaking out pre-op is normal.
Good luck!!

I agree with others the complications are low but they are still there but think about the complications if you do NOT have the surgery. I am 3 weeks post op and I had a stricture due to the nurse not consulting with the doc when i called i spent a week miserable. So, I had an apt already made for my 2 weeks post opt and talked to him at that. He confirmed he believed it was a stricture also. I went the next day he got me all fixed up within two days I feel and look sooo much better. My whole family is commenting how my attitude etc is better=) I was like well of course I couldnt eat or drink.. but don't worry this surgery will be a great tool and you will have a better life. I will say this me personally the first few days I had regrets but now it's more of a frustration for myself .. your pouch is like a newborns you gotta learn the game ALL over and it takes time. Im slowly learning what works for me. Good luck and know we are ALL here for you

Strictures happen to between 6% and 27% of people who get RNY. It's a teeny tiny little complication that is taken care of usually in one endoscopy, and is very simple fix. It is nothing to worry about. There are of course other complications, but in the end, it's like russian roulette... you roll the dice and most of the time you come up with a good result, but sometimes there are small or big complications.
Your chances are GOOD that nothing untoward will happen.

I chased my dreams, and my dreams, they caught me!
I agree with the former post from Katie, think what the complications could be if you don't have surgery. That is what I remember when I think about my journey. I am 8 years post op RNY. I am one of the 2%(might be old statistic) that could have a bowel leak. I had it on two separate occasions by two separate highly qualified surgeons! So what are those odds! I had seven surgeries in the first year and a half due to complications. BUT I SURVIVED!!!!! And I have to admit would do it again!
My best advice is to have a recovery plan and stick to it.
Wishing you the best of luck!
