Today has been a bad day for my house. Our puppy of 14 yrs pasted away sometime in the night. My whole family is a mess.  Thankfully DH is home to take care of her. As I could not move her.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

So sorry for your loss, it is never easy, but know you will always have the memories and the Rainbow Bridge.

OH!  I am sorry!  That can be devastating. Was she sick?  Try to be easy on yourself today.  Don't get down on yourself if you are not as good as you think you should be.  Everyone in your house will need a bit of time to cope.  Take it easy.

I am so sorry for your loss. We've recently lost two kitties who we'd had for almost 20 years (didn't even know they lived that long until I had these guys) and the third one we got while they were kittens is really winding down. It is SO hard to say goodbye.

I'll be thinking of you today; I know that doesn't help much but at least you know you're not alone and have all of us here on OH.

So sorry for your loss...our 13 year old baby is near her end and I think we are going to have to make the decision to end her suffering, probably this week.
Thanks for posting, and thanks to everyone for the responses!

Sorry for your lose!  It is never easy losing a family member and it takes a long time to heel.  I don't know what breed of dog, but you are fortunate to have had 14 wonderful years.  My Golden has mass cell cancer and will turn 13 (Lord willing) in June.  Each day with them is special.

I see television shows all the time about animals that are neglected and mistreated.  It's so nice to hear about a dog that was so well loved that she was still considered a puppy after 14 years.  What a lucky dog you had.

I'm very sorry for what you are going through - but remember that you provided your puppy a wonderful life.

I am so sorry for you loss.  it is absolutely amazing how much we love our fur-family members.  Hugs to you and your family.  She is at the rainbow bridge running happy and healthy while she waits for you.

I am so sorry. You and your family have my prayers. My 11 year old has congestive heart failure and has already lived longer then the vet predicted so I know I will be in your shoes one day. It is never a good time to say good bye.
