SO MUCH AIR

I am so unbelievably frustrated. Everytime I eat or drink I get so much air trapped. I don't drink out of a straw and I try so hard not to take in a lot of air. I try to drink and eat little bites and sips and I go real slow. I'm just so irritated by this. I burp SO MUCH. But it hurts and sometimes I burp and have so much air that I end up throwing up. I would appreciate any suggestions on this. I'm not gettng enough water in because of this.

I had that problem too and it went away after a few weeks so it should get better with time. Sucks I know-

my NUT recommended getting a Camelback brand water bottle. Apparently the design keeps you from being able to suck in air with water/liquids. I've seen it at the Vitamin Shoppe but I'm sure you can find it cheaper online.

After surgery, sometimes burping isn't so much about swallowing air . I know if I am eating too quickly, or eat too much, or take too big a bite that I belch a ton, and occasionally get sick to my stomach.

I find that if I use a covered cup and bring the liquid up to the top of the cup (by slightly tilting it) before I put my mouth to it, and sip slowly - I take in less air.

It sure is a horrible feeling when you get air trapped...

The covered tops work, as do "sippy cups" I found some adult like sippy cups at Target and used those exclusively for 3-4 months post op. If I tried to drink from anything else, it was uncomfortable. Those cups (with the plastic seals removed which means they could spill if tipped) were a life saver for me. I recently gave all mine away at a support group meeting to others getting ready to go through surgery
