Depo Provera
I found out a couple of years ago that I have uterine fibroids. They aren't very big, but they cause me to have a period twice a month and kind of heavy. I am so tired of this. I have thought of getting on the pill, but my gynecologist said that estrogen can feed the fibroids. I definitely don't want that. So, she suggested the Depo shot. I was on the pill many years ago and never gained weight on it. I was on the shot about 5 years ago and I don't think I gained on it. I did gain towards the end, but I think it was actually because I stopped being really strict on my diet.
All this being said, I was wondering if anyone else has had any experiences on this after having wls. I have a feeling there will be a lot of negative, but if anyone has positive or neutral results, I'd really love to hear those as well.
Thank you all for your help!! :)

Hi there! i didnt have the depo after wls but i did have it for a long time before...it messed up my cycle even more than it already was. You can get the shot like a week before your due to a week after i think...if i didnt get it exactly a week before i had major major issues cramping so bad i couldnt get outta bed and a beyond heavy flow...i am not totally familiar with uterine fibroids so i dont know if you could but can you use iuds? i have the mirena in right now and i love love love it!
My cousin was on the depo (not after wls) and she was SO miserable, depressed and hated life. I know that is a side effect and it hit her hard. I felt so bad for her, she was like a totally different person in the few months she was on it. She went off of it and is terrified to even think about ever getting back on it. She has endometriosis and is now having a hysterectomy. She says anything is better than getting back on the depo. Not let this scare you, it affects everyone different I am sure. But this is just one case. Only way to know is to try it I guess. Good Luck!
I have had the shot twice...the first time i had it my weight loss slowed a bit but i didn't have a period and my pcos symptoms were completely gone so i had it again and i'm almost at the end of the 3 months and i haven't lost any weight since ive had the second shot. it was great for controlling my symptoms and it was wonderful not having a TOM but for me weightloss is more important right now. good luck with whatever you decide to do! Oh and another thing, i talked to my gyno about it and she said any BC could prevent weightloss or even cause weight gain
