Do I Need To Go To The Emergency Room?
I had a boiled egg for lunch today. I ate it while waiting for my husband to come out of his RNY surgery. I think I may have eaten it too fast or something, because I've been been puking all afternoon ... not so much if I drink liquids, but if I take a bite of anything, out it comes ... along with pieces of the egg. All I'm puking up right now is mucous and foam, but I get this terrible pain in my back between my shoulder blades just before I heave. If I lie down in bed, I feel slight pressure, so here I sit on the couch in an upright position. Doing that makes me feel okay ...
Should I drink something hot (broth, tea, etc.)? Will that make it feel better?
My husband is in the hospital recovering from RNY surgery; I have a 14-year old son asleep in bed, and I'm not feeling well and the hospital is 20 miles away. I will be at the hospital in the morning to spend the day with my husband. He will be seen by the surgeon first thing in the morning ... can I wait until morning to possibly talk to the surgeon, or should I go to the emergency room?
AND, if I do go to the emergency room, what will happen? What's this talk about a scope? Would I feel it? Would they knock me out so I won't gag?

You need to make the decision... If you are feeling really bad - go.
Are you keeping hydrated? If you are puking and it's been all afternoon you are at a risk of being dehydrated. The ER could give you something to help with the nausea and vomitting as well as hydrate you.
There's also a lot of the flu going around too - so you can't rule that out either.
When it doubt... get it checked out!
Feel better soon...
How many hours have you been getting sick? Are you able to get liquids down? Have you tried walking around to help digestion/indigestion? It always seems to help me when something gets "stuck" and uncomfortable. Also, you could have pulled something while getting sick - I've done it before.
Did you doc office give you a number to call for emergencies?

I had the eggs around 2pm. I was doing fine until about 4:30pm when I tried to take a couple bites of something else. Before I knew it, I was in the bathroom puking it up. Egg came out with it. Tonight, I got home and amended my food journal as I wasn't able to take in all the food I had planned on eating. While doing that, I got me a small bowl of applesauce. Three bites into it, I went back to the bathroom and puked some more. Then when I took my night pills with water, I puked that up ... with more egg.
I can't really walk around this late at night ... we live in an apartment complex and I'm all alone ... just don't feel safe doing that.
I haven't called my surgeon's after-hours line as I'm not sure this constitutes an emergency. I don't want to go in if it can be handled in the morning, you know?

Sounds like something is stuck. From what I understand, if your pouch is full/no place for food to go, it will come right back up. If its something that doesnt agree, it could come back up but usually (at least for me) it comes out the "other" way. I would try walking around the apartment.
If you can get in at leas****er tonight don't worry about getting food. Are you able to drink jus****er?

Only you know exactly how you feel and make the call to go. But from what you describe, if it were me I would wait and see the doc tomorrow. The ER is probably not going to be very helpful and unless it appears to be life threatening you doctor probably will wait until the morning to check you out. Chances are you will just end up exhausted from waiting all night in the ER. Just be sure to get your fluids in.
Ooh! I like your idea! I think that is what I was hoping someone would say ... I was afraid everyone would say "go to the hospital", but I really didn't want to entertain that option, especially not after the day I've had at the hospital waiting on my husband.
Thank you! I think I'm okay to wait until morning ... I'll just plan on sleeping in the recliner tonight.
